So, I am traveling with my mom who is undergoing cancer treatments which completely inhibit her appetite, We have Soace 220 booked and we will keep it regardless because she is interested and I am too, but does she have to order the full prixe fix menu? Can I order the meal and she just orders a side or a cold drink? Frankly, she will probably just want a cold drink (non alcoholic) but I know she will feel bad if they make her order a full meal. I am 100% paying, which will bother her most of all which is part of the problem!

Sorry to hear about your mother.... (I hate cancer)....I might be wrong but I believe she will also have to order a meal . Could you book the lounge instead? In the lounge you can order your meal and she can enjoy her drink plus an appetizer. Best of luck

Not to hijack this thread, but question related to the lounge -- can you order a la carte items off the regular menu at the lounge or do you have to stick with the lounge-specific menu?

Ok, going to keep checking on lounge reservations, of course there aren't any right now.

I appreciate the help!

Have you tried calling and seeing if they can make an exception? I think your case is very compelling and see if they will allow it? It seems like it is something that would make your mom happy and I would think Disney would be willing to do the same.

No one on the phone at a call center would have the authority to grant that exception.

I just keep checking for lounge reservations. I do have severe and weird food allergies so I have to email them prior to my trip if I can’t get a lounge reservation then I will just ask at that time if anything cam be done. I would like them to make the servers aware in any event just so they do not call attention to it I do not want to embarrass my mother.

That makes sense, but I was wondering if you were to call in and then have them call the restaurant directly or get someone with authority to provide an official answer? I've had questions before where the person on the call wasn't able to assist but they had the ability to call people the general public don't have access to and got me the answer I needed.

I completely understand that Disney or anyone really isn't obligated to make any exceptions for any scenario but my philosophy has always been it never hurts to ask and get a no. Op also mentions that they would keep it and possibly just ask that the server to not call attention to the situation.

OP no matter how things go I hope you both have a great time.

When I submitted a special diets form someone from Space220 called/emailed to ask about the dessert for our dinner. However it had just opened and somewhere my special order dessert got lost (they did nothing to make up for it). They also told me they would accommodate our sons dairy allergies but day of just made so many excuses not to even grill veggies and gave him a double order of fries with a dried piece of meat that he wouldn’t touch. He ate some fries.

I would submit the form and maybe make a note if your mom’s condition. They might be able to provide something light or make an exception.

The main advantage of having a Lounge reservation is that each person in the party can choose whether to order from the a la carte Lounge menu of drinks and food or to order the prix fixe meal (lunch or dinner) that's being served in the Restaurant section.

Also, I don’t think you can order individual items from the fixed price lunch except dessert. You will have to pay $55 and order both appetizer and entree.

Yes, she has to order from the prix-fixe menu. Maaaaybe you could get an exception but remember you are dealing with Disney and the outside company that operates Space 220 which could make an exception even less likely depending on the specifics of their agreement. Unfortunately that meal could fast turn into an extremely awkward time for you both if your request is denied.

Set a dining alert with Touring Plans or Mouse Dining. Be flexible in what you are willing to take and when you get an alert there is an opening jump on it like the Flash because they go lightening fast.

Mouse Dining sends an email so it’s a hit or miss. They have a delay but not as bad as Touring plans (possibly they give priority to the paying subscribers?).

Stakeout app will send a text for 1 ADR for free.

I don't think they will ever, in writing prior, give an exception. There are just too many people who travel to Disney who deserve exceptions to make prior exceptions like this....even if completely warranted. Especially since in the internet age all it takes is one person to post their exception to then make it an expected rule. But I do think, day of, if you show up and explain the situation to either the host while you wait, or the waiter or manager when you sit down, they could make it right. Maybe they shift you to the top of the walk up list. Maybe they just forget to see your mom is there and she can nibble at your plate. Worst case you have to pay full freight. It's a cool experience and I think your mom will appreciate it when she sees it.

Thanks all, I am fine with paying, just wondering if there was a way around it, I could have sworn when I made reservations that the lunch time didn’t have a flat rate lunch, but I think I must have been thinking of the lounge. In any event, I will keep my eyes peeled for a lounge reservation and if not, no big deal.
Now, the allergy note above does have me concerned! I don’t eat meat except fish, and I am allergic to edamame, I was going to order the salmon and hoping they would just sub a side for me. I have never had a problem with allergy dining at WDW, I hope that it isn’t a problem this time. My allergies are super weird, it is kind of a pain. Berries, apples, pears, pineapple, kiwi, (most fruit except melon, grapes and citrus) bean sprouts, edamame (soy that is not cooked within an inch of its life -so soy sauce is ok), and tree nuts. Makes menu ordering super challenging at times. Especially since so many desserts are garnished with fruits that are not listed on the menu,
In any event, I hope they can take care of me without a lot of hassle,

They are very strict. They had no suitable dessert as an alternative for the special order dessert and didn’t take off the price of a dessert from the meal (least they could do as it was my actual birthday). Was still charged full price for dinner.

I didn’t think dessert was included? I thought it was just app and main course?

In the lounge, you can order a la carte from the lounge menu and/or order the pre-fixe meal. Other than dessert at lunchtime, you cannot order pre-fixe meal items a la carte.
