I made an appt for the marine-collegan facial at 9:15 am- 10:30 am.
We also have res for Palo Brunch at 11:30 the same day.
Will I be cutting it close ?
I read where you also get a scalp and shoulder massage along with the facial.
I've never had a scalp massage...will I need to wash my hair afterwards ?

There were very few openings on line for the spa.

THANKS !:flower3:

I always feel the need to wash my hair after a facial or scalp massage. I've had them use oils for a scalp massage and for a facial wearing the headband makes my hair look yucky being in for so long.

I've never been on a cruise, but I've had lots of facials. The ones I've had definitely make me want to shower afterwards. My hair sticks up from the head band and I'm usually a bit shiny.

I don't know what that particular facial is like, but some facials make your face a bit red afterwards, either from the massage (just extra blood flow) or from extractions. My facialist says that she always tells brides to not get them the day of the wedding just because you really don't look your best right after a facial.

That said, you could tell her where you're going and ask that they not use oils during the massage and verify that they aren't doing extractions (which aren't very relaxing, so they probably aren't on the menu :) )

You can just tell the beautician that you are going to Palo's at 11:30, so you do not want any extractions. Generally speaking it isn't a good idea to apply makeup after a facial--you can check with the beautician to find out if you can use makeup. You might want to book a shampoo and blow dry after your facial to take care of any hair issues.

Ok, since I've never had a Facial done for me before, I have some questions. What exactly is an extraction?
Is there a price list anywhere for the Spa? Does anyone know if they are open in the evening, as this sounds like something nice to be done before going to bed. (scalp massage sounds very relaxing) :)

Extractions usually occur after a preliminary cleaning and steaming of the skin. The extraction portion of a facial is usually the removal of blackheads. A number of blackheads can be extracted during a facial, and you can get small red marks on your face for a while afterwards. Some extractions can be painful, others less so.
A beautician can also remove milia grains during a facial, but will usually ask if you want them removed first, as this requires use of a sterilized sharp tool to pierce the skin and remove the milia. Usually only a small number of milia are removed during a facial, as the process can be painful. You usually have small red marks on your face as a result of milia extractions.
If you have not had a facial before, you may want to completely omit the extraction portion of the process. On some ships I have been on beauticians did not do any extractions during the facials.

They don't do extractions (or at least didn't use to) on the ship.

From my experience, the facials on the ship were less intense than going to a spa and very gentle. I'm pretty fair skinned and my face turns red SO easy. I'm usually a little pink after a facial, but I was completely fine after a facial at Vista Spa. Enjoy! :goodvibes

I would skip the facial all together. I got one on the Wonder and the next day was Castaway Cay my face burnt so bad!!! I have med. skin tone and hardly ever burn-I had to put an icepack on my face at night because of the swelling from the sunburn. I'd go for a massage instead!

Thank you so much ! I think I'll cancel and maybe book a foot massage. Anyone had a problem with that ?

Thanks, everyone for your input !!

I had one on our last Baltics cruise and enjoyed it. I wouldn't cancel, just see if you can change the time.

They do mini-facials as well which are nice and relaxing as well as cheaper. :) I would just change your time. There are plenty of available appointments on board. Just because you don't see it online doesn't mean they won't have alternate times on board.
