I've read about so many different souvenirs! Now I want to get feedback on what I've heard about so I can possibly narrow the choices down (I'm not rich).. so again I turn to you experts for assistance :) Now mind you, I'm not looking for a choice out of them, just wanna hear your thoughts on each of them.

1. The chalk portraits. I'd love these done for one or both of my daughters, or even of the two of them or me and the BF, has anyone had them done? I HEAR they're expensive and not great quality really.

2. The silhouettes. Supposedly you can get two people and they're $6... There's been enough discussion on this, has anyone had them done recently?

3. That light up gold medallion in place of the light up pins. It's $15, but it's SPARKLY LIGHTS!! and SHINY! That's enough to sell me.

4. The Epcot passport for my 5 year old daughter so she doesn't get bored at Epcot (but she'll be doing the Kidcit stations with the mask and all as well, so should I still get the passport?)

5. Face painting. I've seen this done and it's done at MGM and MK, about $12-$15, anyone had it done? I've seen photos and it just looks COOL.

6. Those Mickey head Christmas ornaments at the Christmas Store in DTD. I wanted one personalized for each person in my family. Anyone have them? Know how much they are?

Of course, I'll probably see a Stitch backpack or some plush I just HAVE to have, or something from the Villains store, but that's another story.

So anyone have any thoughts on 1 through 6?

Personally speaking, I would not spend my money on anything that would not last (i.e. face painting). I have never been fond of portrait paintings or silhouette things either!

I enjoy items that I can keep forever, like you ornament idea. Great idea! I also purchase coffee cups, drinking cups, photo albums, a t-shirt or golf shirt, or key chain. There are sooo many items to select from (within a decent price range). I am certain you will find just that right souvenir! :flower:

I will indeed.. I have to disagree on one thing though... I LIKE getting things like face paiting, especially for the kids, because while yes, they may not last forever, it's something unique you really can't get elsewhere. The tangible things, if I really want to (like mugs and t-shirts) I can usually find on eBay when I come home for cheaper than the parks usually :) Not all the time, mind you, but more often than not (for example, like the GoH badges I've picked up, or the HCOE gold medallion that just won't be on eBay, etc.). Some of my favorite photos of my kids are at events where they've done things like face painting (or even myself). It's a great memory, if if it's not something you can bring home :) Like you said, personal preference :sunny:

But I'm curious to hear from people who have purchased the things I mentioned, had experiences with them, or at least know more and can tell me a bit more about them (like one woman has already told me the chalk portraits, for her, were not great quality and too expensive, if I get a lot more comments like that I'll rethink getting them :) )

Thanks so much for the input! :goodvibes

Yes, I just realized that they were souvenirs for the kids and/or family. Big difference! ;)

Face painting is such a hit with the younger ones (and even some of the bigger kids). And yes, pictures are very important, too! This would definitely be a great opportunity to get some cute pics. Makes sense to me! :cool1:

Let us know what you decide. I am sure whatever it is, it will be a memorable occasion! :flower:

Just a thought, (since the face painting would be so temporary). I believe I read somewhere on this board of a lady in Morocco that does henna tatoos and while they are also temporary, if you go back anytime during your trip she will touch them up for free. That way your girls would have something that would last throughout the trip. The picture I saw was of a hand, up to the wrist, but my understanding is that she will tatoo anything. The one I saw was very intricate with all sorts of details. It was really interesting and pretty. Again it's henna, so while loing lasting it is not permanent. Again just a thought.

My dh and I did the silhouettes in Jan 2005 and I believe they cost $6-7. You could pay extra to get a frame too (another $6-7 I believe). And, you actually get two silhouettes for the price of one because they cut on two layers of paper, so you get one facing each direction.

The other souveneirs we normally get are a couple pins and postcards that we mail to ourselves each day detailing what we did that day. That'd be a great (and cheap) idea for kids.

I would definitely get the Passport in Epcot. We got this on our trip when my DD was 4. She did the passport and the Kidcots at the same time. The CM's working the Kidcots will write something in their native language in the book. My DD is 7 now and she still looks at it all the time. She even took it for show-and-tell at school. There is also a button that comes with it that she can wear and it has all the flags of the countries on it.
