Souvenir Mugs used more than once?

Last May, we returned (after 3 years) to ASSp and took the old mugs with us. When we saw the new mugs available, with a different design, we wondered if it was okay to use the old ones and decided that if anyone cared, we would buy new ones.

Nobody cared at all..... no funny looks or anything.... if there was a sign saying new ones were needed, we sure didn't see it anywhere!

Geoff gave a good answer. Disney policy, good for your current stay in that resort is VERY CLEAR IF YOU READ THE SIGNS. It is also VERY CLEAR that the policy enforced by CM is free soda for all. People are using old mugs, mugs from different resorts, 7-11 big gulp mugs etc. It is rare that anyone posts any problems with filling up any type of mug or cup.

The exception may be places like Boardwalk in which you have to hand someone your mug to have it filled. Boardwalk as a reduced price (around $1) for non Boardwalk mugs.

we will be staying at Beach Club Villas this year. does anyone know if they have the refillable mugs there? Do they sell them at Y&BC? or what is the situation regarding mugs at these resorts? thanks in advance...

Yes, there are refillable mugs at the Beach Club. You can buy them at Beaches & Cream, that's the only place I've seen them. Here's why I have never bought one:

You can only refill them at Beaches & Cream and at Hurricane Hannah's (pool bar). Both are a pretty good walk from BCV. You must hand the mug to a server to have it refilled from the fountain sodas. There are often long lines at Beaches & Cream. I don't know about Hurricane Hannah's, there probably aren't so many lines there, but it's not open all the time.

All BCV rooms have refrigerators. It's much less expensive and much more convenient to buy your own sodas offsite.

That was abotu a year ago..and although Pop Century is new..they didn't build it with the scanners. If Disney had a Snopes page with urban legends, I bet this would be on it, along with the stories of the kids who get their hair colored in the bathrooms and are almost kidnapped at Dinsey, except for a CM who notices the dripping hair color!

This is prob the same CM that told us to bring 'em on back, that told us about the scanners. LOL!

Well, back to the same thing people have said on other threads about other subjects.... regardless of what the "rules" are stated in signs, contracts, etc.- if you ASK and they say it's okay... then no one else should complain about it. It's like if I have a rule in my house- and someone asks and I let them break the rule- my neighbor can't gripe about it.. it's MY house, I can make/break the rules if I want to.

On our last trip- I took my ASMu mug.. sure did. I didn't use it at first though- wasn't sure if I should. I purchased FOUR ASSp mugs though- for the rest of my family... what was stopping me from drinking out of one of those mugs? Nada.

But about the 3rd day- I was going to fill up the mugs and decided to take mine- I asked not one, but TWO CM's at the registers if it was against the rules to use that mug even though it was purchased on a previous visit... they said it was fine to use it. Perhaps they didn't care about the "rule" because they saw I had 4 other paid for ASSp mugs! I don't know. (But if you think about it- we could easily have "shared" any one of those 4 mugs anyway)
But once they tell me yes- then I'm free to do so. And I did a few times to get hot cocoa when it was cold at night- only a few cups... (and not one CM ever gave me so much as a glance for doing so either) and the rest of my family didn't even use the dang $10 worth on each of their mugs. LOL So ASSp still came out ahead. Maybe that's why they don't mind if some people do this... they make so much off of the ones that do buy new mugs and don't even get $10 worth of drinks out of it during their trip?

But so many say it's "okay"- they might as well take those signs down... one way or the other. Either take the signs down or enforce it for everyone.

As you can see, there are lots of different answers on this subject. This is the same as with most topics here on the DIS!

Being that everyone else has put in there .02, here comes mine...

I don't like the way that Disney enforces this policy. The official policy is that your mugs are good for the length of stay. I think that the CM's should be uniform in informing guests and enforcing the rule. I think that the rule is fair, and the more abuse it takes, the more the prices will be raised.

I was at the AKL two weeks ago. I was filling my mug one morning and there were two people standing next to me. One had an AKL mug, and the other had a PO mug. I looked at her and shook my head. SHAME ON YOU!!! STOP! THIEF!!! In all honesty I thought it was sad. If you're shelling out $200 a night for a hotel room, go ahead and cough up the extra $10 if you want the unlimited beverage perk.

After asking numerous times, I bring my mug with me to reuse at that resort. Just came back from the Wilderness Lodge and brought my mug with me from my last visit there. Used it many times a day and saved quite a bit of $$. If you are using the mug from the same resort (i.e. DL at POR), then go ahead and use it. I have a collection in my computer room of various mugs from resorts. Last year my family went to the Polynesian a month before me and purchased a mug. They brought it back to me as a souvie, and I turned around and brought it with me to use when I went.

I don't believe in using mugs from other resorts or parks at the resort you are staying at, just from the one that you are staying at.

After asking cast members on previous visits and being told I could use it again, I don't find this to be such an issue as others do.

My vote, bring it!!

I remember that Mug Man thread, it was great!

I do remember getting my first refillable mug at CSR 6 years ago. I was told that we could bring it back with us and use it again. However, we did not bring it back on our next trip--but we did pick up 3 more.

I am now looking forward to my next mug purchase at the Beach Club to add to my collection.

BTW-I still use my mug when I need a Disney fix!

I remembered that mug man thread! I even mentioned it to my husband on our trip! Many times at first we went together- and then a few times I went with my oldest to get the drinks in the mugs... but then he went and it made me think of that thread. By the 3rd day he was OFFERING to run get the drinks in the mugs- and I mentioned he was my mug man (said lovingly with a kiss on the cheek) (and then had to tell him what that meant LOL)

Oh and I saw quite a few other "mug men" during our stay (while at the pool or sitting outside writing in journal, etc.) and one time I lost my head (okay so I'm just very personable even towards strangers LOL) and nodded towards one man when I SWEAR he was carrying atleast 8 mugs (how do they carry that many back once filled??? LOL) and said "so you're a mug man eh?". He just laughed and said yep.
