Souvenir money for kids?

My kids will be 5, 8, and 10 when we go. They have each been saving up chore money, bday gift money, money they got from grandparents or whatever since before we booked our trip in April. We are contributing $50 to each of them for spending money. They can use it for what they want, but we will offer them some guidance so they make good choices.

My middle child would spend the whole wad on candy if we let him! :yay:

My 2 yo DD is getting 400 from Mommy and Daddy, and 100 from GMA. I think she will be well taken care of while she's there.

Holy cow! For souvenirs? I can't imagine how you could find enough to buy with $400. And for a 2 year old - wow.

When my kids were little, I'd get them little things to bring and let them pick a couple small souvenirs (and they did do some pin trading for a short while, not much). Now they're teenagers and not interested in souvenirs, just having fun. Of course I'm sure there's always something fun to buy!

My trip is a belated celebration of my 30th birthday so I went and got £30 changed into dollars ($52 at the time I went to my local Bureau de Change) and I'm giving my son that :)

I do agree that 500 is a bit much, but I am also including her haircut in that. I just dont see how $50 is enough at WDW? How much would that they buy there? Here at home she only gets 100 for spending per month. But WDW I just dunno I just figured a stuffed animal would be $25 on its own.

I don't even get $100 to spend per YEAR! Your kid has it made!

Am I reading that right, you give your 2 year old $100 spending money a month?

Yes that's where her shoes, clothes, and toys come from. She doesn't get anything outside of her allowance.

Okay, I guess I don't really consider that spending money or an allowance. I see buying necessities such as clothes just what you need to do.

Last time the kids (ages 4 and 7 at the time) got $50 gift cards each. It really made them have to decide what they wanted. I did buy them each Mickey ears and Grammie was with us and she bought them each something at Star Wars Weekend and one other item (a book for DS and a bracelet for DD). She even bought me a few things too. :)

We are going in June and it will probably be the same amounts but the kids will probably bring some of their allowance too.

I am surprising my best friends 7 year old son with a trip to Disney via his father and myself. I recently went to Target and I got a black and white Mickey gift bag with black tissue paper and a $50 Walt Disney World gift card.

His bag will contain his Halloween costume from Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, his $50 Walt Disney World gift card and a zombie panda wallet that I found him on eBay because he love pandas and I love zombies and hey it's Halloween time!

We will have a talk about what he should probably spend it on what to stay away from because it has tendency to break.

However much his father allows him, is obviously completely up to him.

I've also got him a pin lanyard with pins. This will probably be given to him the morning that we go to the parks.

My 11 year old has been getting an allowance (not much, but it's money for her to spend, save and learn how to work with) every month. She gets 'paid' when I get paid. I've been doing this since she was 5 and it has, over the years proven a successful move with her. I do give her spending money for Disney and she usually gets a Disney Gift Card or $$ as part of her Christmas present, but she saves the most part of her allowance and takes great pride in the fact that she is using her 'own' money. It certainly makes them them think before they start asking for stuff when it's their own money!!

It's really hard to say $50 is too little or $500 is too much. It really depends on each family. For some people $50 is more than $500 to the next person.

Hi everyone,

Heading to WDW in 3 weeks!!! Yeah!!! I had a question about how you handle souvenir money for your kids. How much? Per day? Save until the end of trip?
Each of mine have about $30 at this point and I am wondering how much to add.

Would love to know how you work it. Thanks so much!

We do 100.00 per child for a 6 day visit.

We do $50 per child and since we are going about a month before Christmas they will also purchase presents for each other that we will pay for. The kids love having their own money to spend. I'm sure my parents will also give the kids money to spend and if they do that we may drop them down to $25 that we are giving them.

For our upcoming trip, we will be giving each kid a gift card for 100.00 and will let them pick out a tee shirt or sweat shirt. Kids will be 13 and almost 19 when we go. They both know that when their money is gone it is gone. They are both welcome to use their own money however. This trip is a Christmas present for them. We may also give each of them an additional amount that will only be used to get each other something special for Christmas.
