We're going to DL in Nov. and I'm trying to plan ahead for souvenirs. DD8 is getting a 'Princess and Me' Belle doll and some outfits for $25 (Toys 'R' Us is having a great deal right now, I'll repost that info in a separate thread!). DD2 is either getting the Cinderella Toddler doll for $15 from Target, or the new Disney Animators Collection Cinderella doll from The Disneystore for $25 (I can't decide, they are both so cute!).

So that leaves something for DS11...he loves legos, drawing, reading, stuffed animals, matchbox cars, xbox, pirates, etc. Can anyone think of something cool either in the park, or in stores, that's Disney related and under $30 for an older boy?

I'm going to put them on the hotel beds before they come in, so it'll be a surprise (and hopefully cut out the "buy me" whines in the park) and save me some money!

A Mickey Mouse Head shirt with his favorite theme (santa mickey or pirate) with his name on it. My DS6 loves his and it makes it special when the CMs say is name when talking to him. They will say "Hi Alex, how are you today?" or something like that. You can make the shirt yourself or have one custom made on Etsy.com. Just a thought.

That is kind of a hard age. I am wondering what my 10 year old son might want to get this year. He already has a build-your-own lightsaber. They used to sell these off-brand Lego-type sets at World of Disney (and maybe in the park as well). Not sure if they still sell them. They had 6 sets....Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, BTMRR, Castle, Jungle Cruise and Pooh. They sold for about $20. I just searched for "Space Mountain Building Block Set" on ebay and a bunch came up. I assume you could find the other sets there as well. Not sure about the quality, but you mentioned your son liked Legos. Good luck!

What about a "How to Draw..." book. They have lots of characters. Or even something a little fancier, check out the Drawing Academy set for Mickey Mouse.

There is a Lego Pirates of the Caribbean game for Xbox, but it is over $30. $34 pre-owned at Gamestop.

You could also get him some starter pins and have him do some trading at the parks. They have pirates lanyards lots of places that you could put them on.

And although this is non-Disney, we found these foam pirate hats at a craft store and wore them while we were at the parks, it was SO FUN! The characters interacted with us differently, tons of cast members complimented us, and people would constantly walk up to ask us where we bought the hats. They were $1, and because they were more of a visor style, they weren't too hot!

My sons are ages 10 and 12. They like way too many things at the parks! Older DS collects pins and vinylmations. He also used to collect Mickey ear hats. He has quite a number including the R2D2 one. We also seem to have entered that age where cool clothing is ok because he asked for a t-shirt featuring one of his favorite rides for his birthday.

Younger DS likes stuffed animals and characters and has piles of them, many of them from the parks. He too collects pins and vinylmations. The great thing about those is that there are so many designs to choose from that there's usually something to suit any Disney taste. The bad thing is that there are so many to choose from! DS10 likes toy guys he can play with so has different types of figures from really miniature sized to more normal action figure size.

Both boys love Legos and usually visit the Lego store in downtown Disney at least once per trip. We browse more often than buy, but it is nice to be able to find what you want if you're looking for a hard-to-find set. Both boys have been eyeing the Pirates of the Caribbean Lego sets that came out this last year, but I think they're still stuck on Star Wars when it comes to Lego.

For Disney stuff outside the parks, I agree with the PP who mentioned the Learn to Draw books. My boys have had fun with those. Also, if he has a Nintendo DS there is a Lego Pirates of the Caribbean video game that is around $30 and might be a little cheaper pre-owned. I have also seen the Lego Pirates of the Caribbean sets in Target and Wal-Mart.

Disney sells the diecast cars (like Matchbox cars) for different rides and characters. This is the TOY STORY set they have online. But we have Mickey, Goofy, etc. Also my nephew got the set that were the ride vehicles for the roller coasters in the park.

Like another poster mentioned, it's hard to buy something Disney for boys that age. The "cool" factor comes into play. Suggestions off the top of my head:

The Disneyland Experience on Xbox 360, which is coming out November 15th: http://www.g4tv.com/games/xbox-360/65373/kinect-disneyland-adventures/videos/

Disneyland themed board games like Disney Monopoly, Haunted Mansion Clue, and Pirates of the Caribbean Life.

Other ideas: Disney pins, a Disney watch, clothing, and of course, Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Pirate themed Lego products (toys, computer/video games).

Unfortunately, it's not really Disneyland-themed, but I bought my eight year old son a pair of glow in the dark drumsticks and he loves them. Here's a link to someone using the same drumsticks my son has (also purchased at DL): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqgJTOfu260

Good luck! :)

I always go with either a Star Wars or Cars theme for souvenirs for my nephew who's around that age...never had any complaints  The Star Wars stuff is available in Tomorrowland, and there's a kiosk for Cars merch over by the Autopia. :thumbsup2

My son bought a big pirate flag...about 3' x 5'. It was made from a nylon material. He has it hanging on the wall over his bed. It was a great souveneir because it wasn't "baby-ish". He bought it at the store across from the Jungle Cruise.

So many great ideas!! Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2 I love those diecast cars, so fun. I am DYING to see the ride themed ones!

The Toys R Us deal is if you buy a Princess and Me doll, you get 2 outfits for free. They are on sale for $10 each, so essentially you're getting the doll half off w/ 3 outfits total!

Hmm...I must be looking at the wrong ones. The ones I see are $49.99 each, but you do get the 2 extra outfits free. I don't see ones for $25 or $10 with that deal.

Its as if you are getting the doll for $25, because the outfits add up to $25. So since they are free, its like getting the doll for half off...but ya, the dolls are $50. Sorry for the confusion! :lovestruc

This is what I got for my boys ds 9 & 7 before we went.
They both now use the water bottle & lunchbox regularly - I got them at Old Navy!
I got the shirts from an amazing seller on ETSY named babypaige. Pencil crayons & workbook from $ store
