Has anyone ever booked a flight using the rewards (or award ??) you get using the Southwest rewards credit card?? I'm just wondering how hard it is to do so, and also about the seat restrictions associated with those rewards....

Thanks,

No seat restrictions because SWA doesn't have pre-assigned seating. The Rewards points/coupons/etc are really easy to use online. The problem is that it is getting difficult to turn in a regular award for flights to popular destinations these days. Many times, you must turn in double the rewards. However, it's still simple to figure out online.

My mother uses hers all the time and finds the whole process quite easy. That being said, however, if you do plan to travel at busy times or to busy locales, you need to be right on it the day that tickets become open for the time you want to fly if you want to use the free points.

Any reason why? Do they only have a certain amount of seats they make available for rewards on each flight?

Yes they restrict capacity on rewards of any kind. Not only are the rewards easy to use the free drink coupons that come with them are great.

We use them all the time. Actually, using 3 for trip to Disney this week. Never had a problem with flight restrictions, I guess I never travel at peak times!

If you can limit Friday and Sunday travel, it's easier (those seem to be busy days.) If you are traveling over Christmas/Spring Break/Easter, etc, it's harder. Going to MCO from MSY on a Tuesday in February shouldn't be an issue, but traveling Christmas week is difficult using Rewards.

Thanks,

The rewards you get from using the credit card work just like rewards from taking flights. All the points from credit card use and flights are accumulated together. I'm not sure if that's what you're asking. I've used quite a few awards usually to fly to Orlando and I haven't had trouble booking flights. I booked a RT awards flight two weeks ago to MCO for Christmas week and I was able to use the standard award (that was a pleasant surprise). A couple of weeks ago, for the first time I had to convert standard awards to Freedom awards for a flight to Ft Lauderdale for mid-March - competing with the spring break crowd, I suppose.

Actually, we are planning to go Dec 11-16. Do you think I would be ok??

It is easy to go online and look at the days and flight times that awards are available under your Rapid Rewards account. I just booked three for May 26 (before Memorial Day). I paid cash for myself so that I will get flight credits for the future. I sometimes use only part of the round trip reward and pay cash for the section of the trip that is the lower price.

Surprisingly, I received enough credits to get a FREE Companion Pass for the entire year, so that I can fly a person free anytime I fly. I am limited to 3 changes in persons after designating the first person.

The Companion Pass is not subject to ANY restrictions or blackout dates and can be used if I am traveling on a Award ticket or cash ticket. That is cool....

Not so the free drinks. Last flight the white wine was the Worlds Worst Wine I've ever tried. I gave it back and asked for a beer. :drinking1

Have tons of the free drink coupons, but noticed on the last batch that came in my name was printed as well as having an expiration date on them.
Am wondering if the coupons must be used by me???

I was able to book two reward tickets (along with three cash tickets) departing from Manchester, NH to MCO for April 26 - May 6, 2011 with no problem at all. In fact it was a lot easier than I imagined, there was an option to use the reward tickets when I started booking the travel then it automatically pulled in the certificates when I went to the payment screen.

Thanks for the replys everyone.... I'm feeling alot better about using my reward flights now.... I don't think I will have a problemn:goodvibes
