Good Morning All!

This isn't really just a question, I just wanted to share my revelation this week.

We are flying Southwest (as I have points and it's the cheapest option for us out of Milwaukee non-stop to Orlando, and hello, two free bags!) Anyways, I just googled when our flights for December will be released and it so happens to be June 2nd. And my ADR day is June 3rd. Should be an exciting Disney planning week for me!! And it's the week after my birthday!

I think planning is definitely half the fun for me!

I also need to wait until June 2 for the SW schedule in late Nov/early Dec. In the meantime though I was looking at flights in October just to see if the usual ones were still available and they're NOT. Grand Rapids Michigan used to have direct flights to MCO, but it appears they've been discontinued and all flights route thru Baltimore. ugh! I checked Detroit as well and I did not see any direct options.

The last few times we have flown SW out of Detroit we have never had a direct flight. Flint used to have them, don't know if they still do.

I am waiting for Nov/Dec dates to open up too. I was looking out of GRR also and so disappointed there aren't any nonstops!

We will be traveling with our four kids and two grandsons (2 and 15 months). So this is going to be interesting.

We are going in October and opted to go out of FNT because SWA eliminated the non-stop out of GRR. I don't understand it...the GRR airport just received awards for being such a flyer-friendly airport, the west Michigan area has a huge market for people who love to vacation in Florida, yet not one, single airline offers non-stop flights to MCO from GRR. I was hoping that when AT/SWA came to GRR that we would see some non-stop options from someone, but no. On top of that, the fares are ridiculous! Delta has flights from GRR on our dates that come in around $450/person! SWA is at about $375...but out of FNT, we can fly non-stop, round-trip for under $300. I live 10 minutes from the airport, but I will gladly fly out of FNT...it's cheaper and just as easy to navigate as GRR.

I'm considering flying out of GRR the night before (6:30pm flight with a stop at MDW) but it's sitting at $200/person right now. If it drops to $160 or less, I think I will take it...just to surprise the kids, who think we are driving to FNT that night and flying out the next day.

The Delta flights aren't nonstop either, are they? That price is crazy. We just went to Disney a few weeks ago and our SW nonstop roundtrip tix were just $212 each! With gas prices as they are I'm surprised at the high airfares I'm seeing. I'm considering driving even though it would be a chore. I am a nervous flier and it's hard enough to psych up for two flights, let alone FOUR if we need to do a connection. Ugh. But I suppose we should still consider ourselves lucky that we get to plan Disney trips - right?? :)

Delta does have nonstop out of Detroit, but recently they have been ridiculously expensive. And for anyone driving in the next few weeks, I-75 is closed at the Kentucky-Tennessee line due to a rock slide.
