I have a question for those of you that have flown Southwest with children. Since there is no advance seat selection, how do you make sure that you are assigned a seat with your children? It would be disasterous if we could could not sit together.

Thanks!

If your child is under 4 you will be able to board after the "A" group automatically.
If your child is 4 or older you will board according to your boarding pass group
and in this case, the best way to ensure seats together is to check-in at the 24 hour window.

CPC

the only way you really couldn't sit with your children is if you didnt check in 24 hours prior to departure and print your boarding passes,
Once you check in you are assigned a section A, B, or C....
Example last flight, I had A15, DD A16 and DH A19 , Southwest lines you up in that order, that is the order of boarding the plane....

Worst case scenario, if you and your children cannot find seats together, you can always ask people to move, or ask the flight attendant to help you. I've seen people ask someone to move so they can sit with their child, and people are always accommodating.

Right...people generally don't want to sit with a child so they will move.

Did you save a seat for DH or is that frowned upon? I've never flown SW with my entire family. Usually, it's just DD and me. This year we are all going together.

I was A17 and DH was A28 and I saved him a seat in the exit rows and nobody seemed to care cause they are looking for seats together anyway.

We flew with our children and didn't qualify for pre-boarding, but checked in via my cell phone at the 24 hr mark and did fine...got in the A boarding group. We were already on the road by the day before, and I couldn't print my boarding pass, but I did get my boarding # online, and no probs finding a seat together.

Just plan to do your checkin as soon as you can, and I'll be you're fine.
