Southwest Tickets question(Updated JUST CHECKED IN)

I'll just throw one thing out there that I haven't seen mentioned. One time we had boarding passes really near the front of the line and I thought we would have no problem sitting together. When we boarded the plane though, it was a continuing flight and was already half full. We were lucky enough to get one of the last empty rows so that all three of us could sit together. So, just because you have an "A" boarding pass, that is no guarantee of seats together - but I hope this doesn't happen to you.

Have a great trip!

Yeah, that could be a pain, but if the OP was able to check in at 7:15 am, the odds are the flight is originating from their airport.

Yea I hope its not a connecting flight,But my plane leaves at 7:15am my wife says she has never seen a Sw plane leave before 6am but who knows.

Yeah - I guess I didn't snap to the fact that they were leaving so early. I surely wouldn't think that would be a continuing flight. Disneynewbiie - sounds like you're good to go.

But you raised a valid point that I don't think many people think about. I know I don't. My flights are always early though, leaving BWI at 7:05 next month, but that is because I want to be at Disney as much as possible :goodvibes

So I checked in online like you guys suggested had the alarm on for 7:00am
checked in at 7:15am.We got seats A54 A55 A56.So are these Good seats?Do I have more of a chance sitting together now?

Those are not "seats." Southwest does not assign seats.

When you arrive at the gate for your flight you will see TVs on the wall and little posts with numbers on them.
1-5 6-10 11-15 16-20 21-25 26-30
31-35 36-40 41-45 46-50 51-55 56-60

The gate attendant will call up the A's (and A will appear on the TVs), you will go and line up at post that corresponds to your number. Then the boarding will begin with A1-5, then A6-10 and so on and so forth. The people ahead of you are free to take any seats they wish, just as you are free to select any seat as you board. There will be up to 53 people who board the plane before you. You should have no problem getting 3 seats together.

True (very true :))

But since there are about 180 seats on Southwest planes, the OP's high-A numbers indicate - or at least strongly imply - that all 60 or so A boarding passes were available for that flight.

Most likely, if it was a continuing flight, fewer numbers in each section would have been available - maybe only 30 As, 30 Bs, and whatever Cs were necessary

You didn't get seats, you got boarding pass numbers. They board the A group first, so you are good, you just get in line with the A group, and when you get on the plane, you have to pick your own row of seats. Seats numbers are not assigned, only your position in line to get on the plane.

Actually, Southwest planes hold a maximum of 140 people, not 180.

That's true. A & B are 60 spots each but C is way less than that, just the remainder. A1 to A15 are for their full fare or A list passengers, most times they are not all used.

If you are only adults, I agree that it's sometimes better to board later. At least when they did family boarding first most of the screaming kids were in the front and the adults only groups could retreat to the back.

I am not the OP, but I must thank every poster that did respond to this thread! I am a new SW flier, and our trip is now less than a month away! I do read every SW thread so I can be prepared and can't wait to check in the day before our flight.

:thumbsup2 to everyone who is a veteran SW flier and helps us SW newbies!!!

Actually, I believe it is 137 passenger seats on the 737-300 and 700 models. I'm not sure how many passenger seats are on the B737-500 series (it does have a slightly different seating configuration), but I don't believe they have that many 500 series in the fleet mix.
