my family was planning on going to THE WORLD from April 2-9 th.
I just saw the fares will be $2200.00 for a family of 4 from Midway in Chicago, this is ridiculous!
That's 7 1/2 months away. I missed the fare launch by a few days, WAS TOTALLY SHOVKED AT THE PRICE! It is cheaper to book SW For MCO at Christmas, only 1600.00
Any chance of a sale? Hahaha!
Gas is down and airfares are up!

Did you know there are other airlines? Many have fares ORD-MCO for your dates for 4 people for about $1,200 RT.
I know, but my kids prefer Midway, I'll keep watching. The y actually live 20 minutes from South Bend, and would prefer to fly from there! Ugh!

There are several threads going about the high price of the spring fares on SW.

I'm in the same boat for mid March. This years price is more than double what it was last year and I tried to book on Aug.11....booked last year the morning the dates were released also. I have booked my flight to MCO but had to book it for 1 day earlier to get a decent fare. I don't have a flight home as yet...guess I'm just going to have to stay there forever.:rolleyes1

I wonder if the March fares have anything to do with Easter being early. I need to travel home a week before Easter.

I was online when "I thought" the new window opened for Spring Break fares. Was told posting started at 8 a.m. Central Time but it happened much sooner than that. People were staying up all night and many called when they weren't seeing it on it. They were able to make reservation via phone even though it wasn't on line yet. I called Customer Service because I never flown SWA airlines, this was my first time trying to get airfare, and was told that I should of never been told a precise time and she kept apologizing. She was actually very nice and seemed sincere. It would cost us a little over $3000 for a family of three to fly from California to MCO during Spring Break. That doesn't include a hotel and parking because we'd airport is far away. I was able to get airfare on United for $2100 (which is almost doubled than what we paid last year) but at least we can depart from our little, local airport which is 20 minutes from our home.

They may come down some. I booked opening day as soon as they released for thanksgiving week and fares were really high coming back, when I checked back two weeks later they had dropped a lot! So keep watching!

fingers crossed

If the fares don't drop soon I'll have to book a connecting flight home a day earlier than I wanted. It's the only thing that is reasonable but it's on Delta.

This. We have already rebooked twice for our April trip because flights have dropped and better options have come available. We originally weren't going to arrive until 8:30 PM because it was the only flight that cost a reasonable amount of points. We are now arriving at 4 and I'm hoping to keep moving that up as the prices continue to drop. I literally check them every day at some point....Friday around noon they were the same, but by 6:00 PM, a flight had dropped from 15,000 to 6600 points.

The flight that I booked on Aug 11, traveling to MCO was $123 and literally 3 minutes later it jumped up to $137. So I immediately purchased that one out of fear that it would go higher. Later that night it was up to $157 and continued up to $210 over the next day and a half. Then on Aug 13th in the morning it dropped to $107...of course I rebooked and got the credit but I'm rather unhappy that I paid the extra $60 OOP. I know sort of feel locked in to booking my return flight on SW to be able to use that credit. I prefer SW but I do have a budget to keep in mind. I will just have to ride this one out for another few days.

Very occasionally you can get cheap flights out of SBN (usually through DTW or ORD, and you might actually win that, because Notre Dame's spring break is in March. :)

Seriously though, MDW?! You can take a bus from South Bend directly to ORD, Midway is such a pain to transit to from there! (recent and not so recent alum in the family, and I'm there at least twice a year for football). The bus plus a flight out of ORD is actually faster than a flight from SBN because the connections line up better, usually.
