Just checked this morning and you can now book flights through August 8th......

All this waiting, and the rates aren't really that great. I'm holding out on booking SW a little longer to see if they drop their fares or offer friends fly free. Two years ago I got RT Hartford to Orlando on SW for $93 each for Aug. Last year we went in July and got the friends fly free deal, each ticket was $214 with one free, so basically I paid $107 each. If I'm going to pay what their fares are right now, I want a seat assignment.

Anyone else think SW will drop their prices and are holding out for a better deal?

The fare for the route I want has doubled since they extended the schedule. Essentially, they aren't offering the good discount or internet fares. My dates are in July.

Any hope of their fares dropping if I wait? I agree with barbnbrian, if I have to pay full fare, I'm flying Delta.

I was able to finally book my May 31-June 7 trip. It was $50 cheaper per ticket than anything else I had found so far. Plus it was non-stop. I'm quite pleased!!! Saved me $150-200 overall. I fear everyone else will drop their rates tomorrow but hey - I paid less than I thought I was. I'm a happy camper. :bounce: :bounce:

I am not happy at all with the fares. They are no lower than USAIR from Albany. I am going to wait and see if they run any specials or if they come down. Otherwise I will go USAIR, atleast I can get seat assignment.

Let's all start emailing SWA telling them how disappointed we are with their fares for their new schedule and letting them know we will book with other airlines unless they offer some special fares soon. Maybe they offer some specials soon, but they should know that travelers are going to look elsewhere if they don't offer any deals. With the state of our nation, many people won't be taking vacations this summer, especially if they don't get a deal somewhere. Anyone else agree?

The prices are extremely high. I can fly Continental for $170 and SW flight is $288. I will just have to keep waiting for SW to offer some specials before I will consider them.

I agree that we should let Southwest know of our displeasure. I like everyone else have been patiently waiting for their June rates to open up. When I saw the rates this morning I thought why would I pay that much to fly on an airline with no seat assignments, no food, and from what I have heard tight seating?

Also, with the threat of high terrorism and war and also believe the travel industry will be hurting this summer. I can't believe that there won't be any special deals. I am a huge planner and this is killing me not to have my tickets bought for our June trip but I talked to my husband this morning and he "made" me wait. He, on the other hand, likes to live life on the wild side:)

If anyone has any more ideas or thoughts I would be happy to hear them. This is really frustrating:(

I'd wait for cheaper fares from SW. From my experience, the SW fare did not drop until just under 3months from the travel date. I got nervous and booked with Delta for $50 more pp because Delta's flights were filling up. If I waited, I could have saved $200. I guess it's not that bad, if it was $400, I'd be kicking myself. But I wanted piece of mind that we had seats on the flights that we wanted (we're traveling w a 4 YO and 15 month old, so that was also a major consideration). If they were older, I probably would have waited it out.

There are so many factors right now that could affect travel. Yes gas/oil are going up which could increase fares, but going to war could keep people home and they may be trying to fill the planes soon. If you can afford to wait, I'd do it!!

well talk about a disappointment! All this waiting for nothing! the prices are outrageous, not worth using at all. Hope song will be better pricing.

MAJOR disappointment! I refuse to book at these prices... I was just quoted USAir R/T in MARCH at $185/pp with taxes. So... to go to FL in JULY and pay more? I... Don't... Think... So!

I will wait... worse case, I end up paying $106 for the N/S (which is all I want SW for!) but for now, I will wait to see if there are any offers made later.

What a downer for this morning!

This is going to sound weird but you should try SWA Vacations. For my itinerary, I could get 2 RT tickets and a rental car for CHEAPER than the tickets were costing through their normal SWA reservations website. It's still not a tremendous bargain and I'm going to wait and see if fares come down but I thought this might help someone else.

On May 13th last year, I booked an August 22 trip when the friends fly free package became available. Maybe you August people will get a deal in May. Hang in there!

We found good fares for our trip from Phoenix to Orlando and jumped on them this evening. The airfare from Tucson to Orlando was higher than other airlines, but have not found anything cheaper from Phoenix to Orlando since last July (and dummy here did not buy them then). They were offering the $99 one way.

Yikes....I see what you all mean! Holy Cow!
I would wait and see what happens with prices over the next few weeks, if you have time. At least wait and see what next Tuesday brings.

We could book from Midway in Illinois to Orlando for $155.00 non-stop round trip. Is this a good price? We've never flown Southwest before.

denisenh: Why would you think Tuesday could be a significant date? Thanks. Denise
