Southwest questions

I'm going on my first solo trip Nov. 29 and am taking Southwest more than likely. I have read on this board that they are working with POP. (That's where I'm staying). Is this true?

I also have a mobility problem and am wondering about preboarding at SW. It takes me a bit longer to get to my seat and I didn't want to hold up the line.

From my understanding, POP is still doing the test run of resort check-in. I can't answer anything about the boarding.

I just completed 3 trips on Southwest with a bad knee awaiting surgery. I walk with a knee brace and cane and there was no problem with pre-boarding. I simply asked at the Southwest counter at the gate and they gave me a blue sleeve.

Like you, I'm not moving at warp-speed and people will trample me unless I get a head start.


I had a low number because I am a frequent flier with Southwest - but still no trouble with pre-board. They will take the wheelchair people first then the "limpers" with canes.

POP is currently testing RAC (resort airline checkin) with SW. That is the only 'new' thing and that has more to do with checking your bags at the resort so you dont have to drag them on the DME bus (if you are using DME).

I am curious about this. We are taking DHGrandfather who walks with a cane (slowly) so we were thinking we needed to get him a wheelchair. We called SW and they said just to ask for it at the counter and they would give him the preboard stuff. Now his wife is 90 and just as slow. Will she be able to preboard with him? How does that work? Only the limper or can they have a person helping them preboard too? Trying to determine if we need to pay for early checkin to try and get a low A pass to help them get settled in the seats. Any advice?

There's a lot of walking at the airport. If you have two people that can push them in wheelchairs, you should do that. It would be much better for them. Check in at the gate for pre-boarding. I would think that one person could go with each wheelchair.

Thanks! I think that is what we will do. We really don't want them preboarding without one of us because it will be confusing for them what to do about choosing seats. I think if we have two wheelchairs my husband and his mother can push them on and then I can board later with my kids. And I know that when we fly BWI the Orlando flight seems to be the last gate at the end of the B concourse! So I think a wheelchair is the way to go.
