I find the truth the best way to go. If you don't need to preboard, why lie?

Surely you jest! I think we should all make up excuses! Then we'll all be on even footing as the whole plane pre-boards!

I just read the post of the pooh sized flyer and I was going to post the same questions of the OP of this thread.

So if I got it right I need to go online that day at 12 am ish to get "A" boarding passes just in case they don't let us preboard with a 2, 4 and 7 (will be then) yr old girls with Dh, Me and the 2 ILs. I don't are where the ILs sit (they could board later, IMO) but I do want Dh and I to be with the girls.

you should not have any problem pre boarding with your family makeup unless they decide that most of the plane is "pre boarders" which happens sometimes

we have never seen it on our flights but others have said they have seen it happen

I fly SWA 20 - 25 times a year. They're the best! Yes, if you have a kid under 5 they let you preboard - after the wheelchairs, handicapped, old folks (who think OLD is a reason to get a blue sleeve , and kids traveling alone) in order to keep your family together. IMHO it's fine to let the families with the screaming rug rats on first, provided they sit in the front so they only disturb each other! What kills me is the "senior citizens" who ask for the coveted "blue sleeve" due to some preconceived disability, in order to preboard. Some of them can walk and push you out of their way better than an NFL linebacker! Although they say preboarders cannot sit in the exit rows (read: more legroom) I've been the first one on in the "A" group (waited over an hour in the cattle fence) only to find the senior citizen preboarders already occupying the exit rows!
So before the heat turns up just let me say: If you're entitled to legitimately preboard according to the rules - fine. If not, try US Scareways, Northworst, or Untied and get your seat before you even leave home!

(No I'm not handicapped, my kids are well over 5 and I don't work for Southwest!) BTW - What you think of me is none of my business! See you onboard. My wife will be in the window and I'll be on the asile - Leave the middle seat empty!

ITA! Although I disagree that if families need to preboard, they should go to the back of the plane. If they need the time to get seated and situated, it only stands to reason that they need the additional time to deplane, too. I fly a lot, also, and I get so tired of the parents in the front blocking the aisle while they wrestle the carseat, kids and the kitchen sink off the plane.

I have been on numerous SWA flights this year and I have seen the FAs being very proactive in not allowing pre-boarders to sit in any exit rows.

What people fail to realize is that the seat coveted "seat assignment" on a legacy carrier is just a suggestion IMHO. Read these boards and see how often the carriers change equipment, combine fights and all seat assignments are thrown to the four winds.

I will fly SWA as much as I can. I know that once the schedule is up, it won't change bar weather or mechanical issues. They also board much more efficiently than any other carrier I fly! They get in, load and get out.

To answer your question, yes you can check in online with your children, I did it in May. We we left home I was up at 12:01 and got A-2through A-7. When we left I checked in on a laptop and had CurbSide print them for me. There are 4 children in my party and I had NO problem what so ever. As for the pre-board thing, I am NOT one of those people who preboards with all of my brew. I wait in my A line like everyone else, and I have NEVER had a problem with all of us sitting together, in fact last year 18 of us flew down and we all sat together and all had an A boarding pass. Have fun and don't worry SW FA are funnier than some comedians! When I flew home in Feb, I had a B pass and still got to sit with my daughter and we had the row to ourselves. Oh course that could have been because she was running a high fever and had green goo coming out of her eyes and nose but hey....at least we sat together and alone! LOL
