SOUTHWEST AIRLINES ISSUES PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE
FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

Airline Plans to Resume Service at 12 p.m. Eastern

DALLAS-Sept. 12, 2001-Southwest Airlines announced it currently
plans to resume scheduled service today at 12 p.m. Eastern, the
time at which the Federal Aviation Administration expects to
re-open the nation's airways. Flights scheduled before that time
have been cancelled.

The nation's airports will be under heightened security following
the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. on
Sept. 11, 2001. As part of the heightened security, only ticketed
passengers will be allowed in the concourse. All Southwest
Airlines Customers will need one of the following: a printed
Southwest Airlines Ticketless confirmation letter, a printout of
their confirmation if booked through Southwest's web site,
southwest.com, or their paper ticket. If a confirmed Southwest
Airlines passenger is not in possession of one of these documents,
they may request a faxed copy of their confirmation by calling
Southwest Airlines Reservations at 800-IFLYSWA (800-435-9792),
print out their Ticketless confirmation page on southwest.com, or
request a printed confirmation at the Southwest ticket counter.

The FAA has suspended curbside check-in at all airports. Customers
will need to go inside the airport to check their bags at the
ticket counter.

Flight status information is available to confirmed passengers by
calling 800-IFLYSWA or by using the flight-tracking tool available
at www.southwest.com.

Customers ticketed on cancelled Southwest Airlines flights can be
accommodated on other flights. Southwest Airlines Customers
needing a refund may call 800-IFLYSWA.

Customers are asked to exercise patience and allow for extra
time needed at the airports to comply with heightened
security measures.
