Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

I only see the offer with a 99.00 annual fee, am I missing something?

It was an offer I got directly via email, I haven't looked online for the same offer anywhere.

"Apply for the AirTran® Airways A+ Rewards Credit Card3 and get 2 Roundtrip Flights after you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months of opening your account. Plus, get 2 Business Class upgrades after first purchase. Enjoy this and many other exclusive Cardmember benefits for a $69 annual fee.†"

If I did this, could I convert my A+ credit to SWA right away, and just let them sit in my rapid rewards account? AirTran doesn't have that many flight options from here anymore.

Just looked at airtran offer, it is a 69.00 fee..they also offer card member anniversary 2 credits(roundtrip is 8) compared to 6000points which is equal to 100.00 wanna get away fare on southwest. Do you think one offer is better then the other?

DH and I each got the $69 card over the past year, so 50,000 pts each.

Just for the heck of it, I applied for the $99 platinum card for each of us, fully expecting us to get denied, and we actually both got approved, so that's another 50,000 pts each! I might actually keep this card (one of the $99 cards) because they have no foreign transaction fees and you get 6000 pts on your anniversary.

Question, does anyone have a customer service number to apply via phone?

I have a security freeze on my account due to ID theft, and I applied for the card and then wrote Transunion asking for my pin. The letter from Southwest said I had 30 days to provide them with an access code, but I won't get it in time for my 30 days to be up. I am wondering if I can reapply without penalty since I won't have technically be declined. Typically you can't reapply if you were turned down in the last 3-5 months.

Does anyone have a link for the 50,000 pts? I can only find the offer for 25,000 on their website. The card is for my mom. I already have my card for this year's flights to WDW and last year we use my DH's pts. from his. We were able to get roundtrip flights for all four of us.

Yesterday was the last day for the 50,000 points-Southwest had a post on their Facebook page stating to apply by Dec 6-I am pretty sure I am remembering that right.

I found that post on their facebook page and it says you get 2 roundtrip tickets and that has expired. However, on their home page the offer is 25,000 pts. which for us in PA is two round trip tickets. So hopefully my mom can get this.

I have my first payment due tomorrow of $1300 in the Southwest Card. However, I have spent an additional $1200 since the billing cycle closed that will be billed in the next cycle. If I pay off $2000 now will the 50,000 bonus points go into my rapid rewards account now or not until the end of the next billing cycle?

It won't be until after the next billing cycle ends. In fact, if I remember correctly, it was actually closer to 6 weeks after I hit the spending threshold on my statement. The regular points that you earn with your purchases will credit a few days after your statement is generated.

Agree, The points will not be given until after the billing statement that the $2000 was reached. Also to note, as of the closing date of the cycle, pending items have a 50/50 chance of making the current statement, for you to receive points, cleared items will have the points given about 2-3 days after the end of that billing cycle as well. Sometimes they go into your southwest account before they show up on your credit card statement.

We just hit the 110k for our companion pass last week so rebooked my flight to Disney!

This is probably a silly question, but is there any way to combine credits with points for a single ticket. Both DH and I have credits from when a fare went down. Mine will pretty well cover a ticket, but DH only has $65. I have plenty of points to use for the rest of his ticket if that was an option.

We don't fly SWvery often because they don't fly out of our home airport. We have to drive 200 miles to catch them.

Thanks,

Sheila

Sadly you can't. I sure wish you could though!

You can purchase points to make up the difference so that you have enough points for the ticket. You'd have to do the math to see if it would be worth it.

Can you purchase 2 one way tickets to make a round trip if I have enough travel funds for one way only? Any cons for purchasing airfare that way?

Yes, you can buy one way tickets. It's actually better to buy one way tickets. It gives you more flexibility if you need to rebook at a lower price for one of the tickets. For example, say you bought a RT ticket for $400 ($200 each way). Then three weeks later one of the to/from tickets has a price drop, but the other to/from ticket price increased. If you booked with one way tickets, you could rebook at the new lower price on one ticket while keeping the original lower price on the other ticket.

Same goes when using points since there is no penalty to cancel a ticket purchased with points. If one way goes down and uses less points, just cancel and rebook. I learned this the hard way.

Thanks! That is super useful info for all bookings. I had no idea :thumbsup2

I have always been able to re-book a flight when the price went down, even if the tickets were purchased as round trip. You don't have to cancel the other leg and re-book it in order to get the cheaper fare when you book a trip.

Southwest in DFW has the Wright amendment which makes SW flts originating in DFW have to stop in another state before going to their entire network. They are a great company.

But in my case, say I paid 150 each way, and booked as a RT. I've had it where my flight TO MCO dropped to $100 but my flights FROM MCO went up to $200. I couldn't rebook and get a price difference on one leg only. If I had booked each one separately, I could have rebooked the one leg and saved $200! ($50 x 4 people)

I don't know why you were not able to re-book only the flight to MCO. Like I said before, I have booked RT flights in the past and have always been able to re-book the flight down without having to re-book the return flight at the current rate. All you have to do go under the "change flight" link, enter your confirmation info and make your check mark next to the flight that has the new low fare. You don't have to cancel your flights first in order to do it.
