I am a bit confused.

I can get a great rate of $59 from Detroit to Orlando (Internet Fare).

I choose Round Trip, it gives me options for there and back.

However the FAQ for Internet Travel states this:

"This fare is available for one-way travel."

What does this mean?

I just booked the internet fare out of Providence to MCO. I thought it was $59 also but by the time I was done it was $67. But still going....First time flying SW. My dh says I'm going to love it but I'm a bit nervous. I always fly Song and this whole not having a seat thing has me perplexed. It's just dd and myself so it shouldn't be a big deal...right??

As I understand it, ALL Southwest flights are one way. You simply book each flight -- departure and return -- and get the low fare.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Some of their flight fares are only available for ROUND-TRIP travel, not one-way. This one, though, you can book just one-way. For instance, say I booked a DING! fare, but the DING! fare wasn't available for my return flight. I could book this same fare that you're seeing just for my RETURN trip home, and use the DING! fare for the trip down.

You should be fine. I fly SW 10 times a year for business and I LOVE it. It's really laid back. You go online before your trip and print out your boarding pass, get in line and board the plane. You guys should be able to sit together no problem, even if you get a B boarding pass. DH and I have never NOT been able to.

HTH!

So if I book this, it will take us both ways right?

Depart Sep 04 Sun 1 DTW-MCO 986 Depart Detroit (DTW) at 10:10 AM
Arrive in Orlando (MCO) at 1:45 PM
Return Sep 09 Fri 1 MCO-DTW 1722 Depart Orlando (MCO) at 7:40 PM
Arrive in Detroit (DTW) at 11:40 PM
Pricing

Also, we have two boys 9 and 4, can we just book them as Adults?

Yes; that's a RT flight (looks pretty good, too!!). Just purchase their tickets normally. We did this with DD2. Since DS is under 5, you'll be able to pre-board before the A passengers, which will allow you to get him settled in before everyone else boards.

Thanks for the quick replies! This place is great!

It seems odd booking for 4 adults with two DS, but if it works, it works :)

You can call and have them note that your boys are children on the reservation, but it really doesn't matter -- there's no difference in fare pricing. Also, if you find a cheaper fare between now and then, you can cancel this reservation and have a credit issued, then use that credit to rebook. It's kinda a pain, but I've got almost $500 in credits right now from flights I've cancelled and rebooked over and over. I saved $93.50 on two tickets to Orlando by doing this last month!

I may do that, I am still a bit undecided if we are going to fly or drive.

If we do fly, do we need any kind of identification for our two DS's? Birth Certificates or anything?

For ourselves I am guessing just our Drivers license will work right?

Your Driver's License is good for your identification. In all the years flying SW, we have never been asked for ID for DDs.

Well I did it, we booked our flight, no need to drive :)

Can anybody that has flown SW tell me how many seats in a group?

We have 4 traveling, can we all set by each other?

Three and three. You could do two and two in a row behind one set or three across and the aisle. Stay up until 12:01 the day of your flight and print out the boarding passes with your confirmation number.

I have seen quite a few threads about checking in online at southwest at 12:01 to print your boarding passes.

I need to leave the house at 4:00 a.m. for the drive to the airport. We have a DS4 so from what I have heard we will pre-board anyhow.

Do you think we would be safe to print our boarding passes at 3:00 a.m.?

gypsydoodlebug - if I did happen to find a lower fare, how would you cancel and rebook, by phone or online? Wouldn't you risk losing a seat if the lower fare became unavailable after you cancelled the orginal ressie for some reason?

Thanks :)

I tell you... I am getting old... I just rebooked for a lower fare online, but for the life of me I cant remember how I did it. I do know that I did NOT cancel the original flight before rebooking. You can call and have them credit your account, but I also know there is a way to do it online.

Also SWA, esp on flights to MCO, dont always offer preboarding for parents with small children. Just coz some flights EVERYONE has small children... lol SO printing out passes the night before is best. One poster asked about 3 am... you should be fine...

Plus in all my years flying SWA with kids... never once have we beeen allowed to enjoy the flight with our kids sitting next to strangers... we keep hoping... but SWA always finds a way for us to sit next to each other... as much as that sucks.

lol- too funny

For Lorix2: if you go to the section of the website called Travel Center you can find a place called "Change Air Reservation." It lets you rebook the flights at the lower price. All you need is your confirmation number and the name of person who originally paid for the flight. It's easy to do.

dgaston - thank you for that info, just bookmarked it.

Laurabearz - too funny, thank you too.
