I was looking at booking travel through Southwest..INDY to MCO non stop flights..My question...Are those non stopflights from Indy the second leg for other Southwest flights coming into Indy? With Southwests seating assignments, i dont want to get stuck on a plane that has many seats already taken up from the first leg of a flight.

And that leads to another question. If one flies Southwest with a stop, do you get your seat assignments for both legs at the same time?

I can answer this part of your question. The answer is no you don't. When you arrive at your layover airport, you have to find one of their guest services desks in order to check in and get boarding passes for the next leg of your flight. At least that is how it was 2 years ago, and I doubt it has changed. We had a 1.5 hour layover and we received the last 2 A boarding passes and 1 B pass. I was glad we were not any later, but then again, it would not have mattered as the plane was maybe half full. We would have had no trouble getting seats together.

I have flown SW a few times, and we have never had trouble getting seats together for our family (3-4pp depending on trip). We just arrive early and line up in our row early and wait our turn to board :) You should be fine as long as you get an A or B pass.

I personally use ATA over SW out of IND to MCO; because, they have way better flight times for us, and the price is usually comparable. Plus, you get seat assignments at booking :) I also used to use Delta out of IND to MCO, but they changed their flights a couple of years ago, and the new times are not appealing to me. So for now I exclusively use ATA when going to Orlando :)

Good luck w/your flights :)

We also try to fly ATA from IND to MCO because of seat assignments and the cost with ATA is as good or better than SWA in most cases. We have flown SWA from IND to MCO and I believe the flight originates in Chicago, but I'm not positive.

I've flown out of Indy. Loved flying out of this airport! Both times the flight originated in Chicago. I didn't have any trouble finding seats to sit with who I was traveling with. I also was able to find some of the cheapest flights to Orlando ($34 ea way once). WOW! Hope this helps!

SWA does not assign seats, so, the answer is no.
When you land you need to go to the gate counter for your second leg for a boarding pass or go to the self service kiosk at the gate area. The SWA site gives you all this information.

We flew out of Indy in September. The flight originated in Chicago. It was late getting to Indy due to bad weather in Chicago. We had about an hour and a half delay. We usually fly out of Louisville but Indy was cheaper so decided to try it. We would choose Louisville over Indy any time UNLESS the cost of the flight is much, much less from Indy.

I've booked my last visit and my next visit with ATA because of the assigned seating. As another poster said, the flight times are very nice as well. We'll be leaving Indy at 8:35 a.m. and arriving at MCO at 10:42 a.m. on Friday, February 6. This should give us plenty of time to enjoy a park that day. I've also found that flights from Indy are much cheaper than other options for us. It's worth the two hour drive.

Another reason that I'm hesitant to fly SWA is because of their policy on larger passengers. They make them buy two seats. I'm a larger woman who has never needed a seat belt extender, but I don't want to start my vacation wondering if I'm going to have to pay for another ticket just to get on the plane.

If the plane makes a stop you stay on the plane and keep your seat. If it's a connecting flight you have to change planes and get a new boarding pass (BUT SW said they may be coming up with a way to get your passes for both legs at once).

Actually SW policy on larger passengers is the same (or better) than most airlines, they have been getting more publicity than other airlines. If you buy an extra seat and the airline isn't sold out they refund the cost of the second seat.
