I've been watching Detroit to LA fares for quite sometime and they are so high! Any chance they may drop? Looking for Dec.26 or 27 and there seems to be a lot of options but they're all $$$, not sure if they will go down or not?

This is prime travel time. I bought my airline tickets for holiday travel in August. The prices have not dropped and it's unlikely they will. If you wait too long, you run the risk of flights selling out.

I watched tickets forever around this point for a trip leaving on the 27th and they NEVER went down!

We are flying on the evening of the 25th. I have been checking our flights daily since booking them for price drops. Yesterday when i checked the depature on the 25th was $30 cheaper. If you don't have them booked now i would go ahead cause mostly i have watched them rise and rise in the past few weeks. Then if for some reason they do go down you could at least get travel funds credit to use later.

Basically...if there is a high demand, the fares will be higher. Lower demand=lower fares. Simple.
Many people want to fly at that time of year...so, expect higher fares.

Not Christmas, but we fly out the monday after Thanksgiving and it's continued to do nothing but rise, rise, rise, rise on Southwest over the past nine months. I finally booked elsewhere for cheaper and at a closer airport, but fares were still outrageous compared to what I typically pay!
