Southwest has different extension policy?

I called SW today to request an extension on my ticketless travel that was going to expire next week. I thought I could book new travel and then send them confirmation once I had taken the flight and they would then credit my credit card. Apparently that is no longer the case because they told me they now have new vouchers that are electronic vouchers that they mail you a code that you can use from home. Of course like a moron I booked the flight I needed before calling SW, so now I still have a credit for $561 with SW and I'll have a new charge for $223 on my credit card and no way to reimburse it. :furious: Somebody shoot me now!

I feel your pain.

I'm in a similar boat. I have $364.40 in credits that expire 6/5/07 & I know I won't be able to use them. I can't seem to scrape up any extra $ to take a trip, & my 18 yr old kitty has been costing us at the vet lately, so I would rather be here with her.

I tried to get a refund. Nope.
I tried an extension. Nope.
She suggested I "give" them to someone, maybe as a Xmas gift.
I emailed all friends & relatives to see if someone would help me out & buy them if they were going to be traveling. Lots of interest, but no takers. My relatives just aren't the traveling type I guess. They just wouldn't believe that credits are transferrable (in a sense). Or that they could buy part of it from me. Geesh, and they even missed out on some great DING fares because they aren't educated like us DIS'ers.

That's what I get for booking non-refundable DING fares before thinking everything thru. Never again. :guilty:

I'll bet there are more people like us here...with credits that might go to waste. So mad at myself.

Did you just book today? I have heard that you can cancel your flights and get a refund to your credit card if you cancel within 24 hours of purchase. Call Southwest and ask if you can do this. Tell them you made a mistake. Then rebook your flight using your credit (but make sure your flight is still available before you do any of this).

Hey Splashmtn,
As the OP mentioned SW has a new program for extensions on travel funds. In June just before yours are due to expire, call the refund #, in Texas and get a voucher which will be good for an additional 6 months. Unlike vouchers of the past, where you had to go to the airport to purchase tix etc. These vouchers will have a number(15 digits) and code(3 digits) which can be used to book online internet fares.

Hope this helps and I am sorry about your kitty.

Thanks for the replies! :)

I'm thinking I may wait until I get my voucher in the mail and then book a new flight with this and cancel the current flight and save the $223 credit for the summer since my existing credit expires at the end of May. :thumbsup2

I got my extension voucher in the mail today, not bad two weeks from when I requested it. I cancelled the new flight that I had booked on November 16 and rebooked it using my voucher. At least now I used a portion of the voucher, I still have $337 on it and I'll also have a credit of $223 that I have until November 16, 2007 to use. I'm now tied into using Southwest for my summer vacation plans. I wish the voucher didn't expire at the end of May. :guilty:
