So the price of my Southwest flight has gone down by over a hundred dollars each seat since I booked. Is there anything I can do to get the better rate?

This is the BEST thing about Southwest - I love it! Save $$$ all the time, and when you use points, it is so great because if you need to completely cancel, you don't lose a thing!

I had to change 4 tickets from Denver to Albany to Denver to NYC once. I actually ended up with $$ in my SW account.

I will admit to booking one ways instead of round trip as it is easier to change with price changes, or your own change of plans.

Exactly! I love SW because it's easy to change/cancel a trip and rebook using your credits. No other airline I know of makes it this easy.

What happens to the early bird check in that I paid for for each ticket if I go thru the above procedures and rebook? Will that be refunded too, then I have to repay again?

Jaylin - I don't know the answer to your question but I would call if you haven't found out yet. I have six people flying with three different confirmation numbers that I wanted to get credit for the price change in relation to and I didn't want to risk losing our seats on the flights (one was the only non-stop from Boston to St. Louis on any carrier for the date of our travel) so I just ended up calling the other day. The woman who helped me got the credits noted very quickly and tried to convince me to get the early bird check-in but I didn't. Is it highly recommended?

We flew SW to MCO from Dayton Ohio in December. 14 & 22. Both ways were very crowded. I was very concerned as my 14 is very nervous in crowds and would not do well sitting alone. On 3 legs total, all five of us sat near one another.

I made sure to check in as soon as online check in opened and we were boarded in the first 1/3 of the people. Sitting together was not an issue.

We never purchase early bird check-in. The only time we have ever had a problem sitting together was when we boarded a flight that was almost already full, as it was a connection for most people (but same plane). We did end up with volunteers to move so I could sit with our 3 year-old and DH could sit with our 8 year-old, but only after I told the people sitting on the plane that they were welcome to sit by my 3 year-old and take care of her for the next 2 hours ;)

No, from personal experience, you lose the EB money when you rebook... That is why I don't purchase it right away, when I first book. I usually wait until 2-4 weeks ahead, when I am ready to give up the idea that the rate won't decrease any more & then I book it.

I rebooked our return flight and the early bird was transferred to the new flight :thumbsup2

Here's SW FAQ on it:
http://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/faqs.html?topic=earlybird_checkin
If an EarlyBird Check-In Customer chooses to change a flight, will the EarlyBird Check-In options transfer to the new flight?
It depends. EarlyBird Check-In is tied to the Customer’s reservation for which the EarlyBird Check-In purchase was made and will be transferred to the Customer’s new flight if he/she changes the flight at least 25 hours prior to the original flight’s scheduled departure time and so long as the change is to a flight that will depart in more than 25 hours. Since EarlyBird Check-In is associated with a reservation, any changes must be made within the same reservation record (same confirmation number) in which the Customer purchased EarlyBird Check-In.
