Southwest flight operated by AirTrain with EBCI?

What's the current procedure for seating on Southwest flights that are operated by AirTran? I am considering booking a flight that has a layover - first half is normal Southwest, second half is operated by AirTran. Does EBCI mean anything for the AirTran segment of the flight?

Also, are the flights operated by AirTran all labeled Southwest and generally in the same gate area as other Southwest flights? The flight has a 40 minute layover so I'd hate to run across the airport. I'd also hate to be looking for Southwest on the departures board when I should be looking for AirTran. Thanks!

Can't answer the first part, but at BWI (Baltimore) the Airtran and SW terminals are all the same.

Believe it's the same for Orlando as well---tho the very few Airtran flights left are still labeled as such.

EBCI is not used by AirTran. You'll have to pay to select seats or get free seat assignments on this fight at check in.

These are still two separate airlines. The AirTran flight will be indicated as AirTran on the departures board. Actually, on departures boards, you look for the city first, then the airline.

Thanks. After I book, do I need to contact AirTran to select and pay for a seat assignment or will I have the option to do it through the Southwest web site?

I just did this for my Mom's flight in September. I bought both legs of the flight on the Southwest website, which ensures free bags both ways. I then used the confirmation number on the AirTran site to buy a seat ($10) for the AirTran leg. It worked fine for me.
