If you purchase tickets on Southwest.com and the flight price becomes lower, can you get the fare at a lower price without being charged??? I am pretty sure that if you change your tickets when you fly US Air there is a $75.00 per ticket fee, is this right??:confused3

On SW, they will give you a credit for future travel if the price goes down. It's good for 1 year from the original ticket purchase price. You can also make any changes for free (unless there is an increase in fare).

US charges $150 for any changes you make (date, flight, etc), including fare changes. They will also charge you for checked baggage unless you are a preferred member.

As the previous person said, the credit that you receive is good for travel that must be completed within one year from the original purchase of the tickets. Note that you can get the credit on one direction of your trip even if the other direction has gone up in price. There are no fees for any changes on Southwest. The only fees you may pay is if you want a different flight and the new flight is higher, but that's not a change fee, it's an increased price.

You can even call and ask for the money back. As long as the change of price is the same flight and not a special rate they will submit to credit your credit card back. It is worth a try.

Just to clarify, US Airways does not charge baggage fees to active duty military. Each active duty military passenger gets up to 3 checked bags for free, and the weight limit is 100 lbs per bag, not the usual 50 lbs.

i just tried that and was told that they don't do that anymore. unless i just got someone unhelpful, i was told that i have to use the difference as ttf.
to clarify the flights were exactly the same, just the price changed.
if you know anyway to get them to credit back, i'd love to hear it. i really would rather not travel w/in the one year timeframe

The beauty of the SW credits is that they can be combined (with some limit of how many, I forget) and also can be transferred to another person. I used to hate getting credits from Delta, wach was tied to the original ticket holder. Sometimes our family of 6 would have $15/each, which never would get used.

SW lets you change flights on the same day, or change days, or just get credit for price drops with no charge, that's why so many here on DIS love SW! Plus the low cost and Ding specials.

That's exactly why they don't give you your money back. It's great if you travel a lot but otherwise they get to keep your money and they get great PR for "no change fees". My flights kept going down and I had a couple hundred dollars in TTFs which I didn't think I would use, but my husband ended up having to travel to see his sick parents, so we used that and got a free ticket. So, you never know, it may come in handy. Or you can give it to someone you know who might be traveling.
