Southwest credits

I had several price drops on a flight from last year, and I thought that since it was under one confirmation number, that each time I got a credit for the price drop, it would still be considered one credit.

I just found out when I tried to use them that each time I got a credit from a price drop, even though it was one confirmation number, they list them all separately. So now I have five separate credits from one flight, and I can only use three at a time. I have to save the fourth spot for my credit card payment since the credits don't total enough to pay for the entire new flight.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, if I have to cancel my new flight, the amount I charged on my credit card will inherit the expiration date of the credits I used?

If that's correct, any trick around that?

Also, I thought I read somewhere that if I book a dummy flight to group all my credits together, then cancel the flight, all the credits will then be combined into one? :confused3
