I had a Southwest promo code to get 20% off my tickets if I ordered the tickets by June 30, which I did. The fare seemed high though ($199) and because I had been checking for a couple months, and the fare had not dropped at all during that time, I went ahead and ordered my tickets on the 30th to get the 20% discount. Wouldn't you know it, today the fare dropped! I paid $162 with 20% off, and now the tickets are down to $135 and that is WITHOUT 20% off!

This has happened at other times and I've gotten a credit towards another flight from Southwest. What I'm wondering is if Southwest has ever given the credit back on anyone's credit card, or do they always just issue a credit to be used within a year? I feel certain I can use the credit for another flight within a year but my DH probably won't. Thanks!

Southwest will only give you credit on your ticketless travel account to use within one year of purchase. It will not credit your credit card, as far as I know. And keep track of that ticketless travel confirmation ... you will need that number when you want to use those funds for another ticket!

I got the 20% off also, but had already gotten my tickets at a cheaper price earlier, so I had to let it expire. :( Wish I had a second trip to Orlando planned!

Other people have said that they have successfully gotten a refund by filling out some form you can obtain at the ticket counter at the airport after your flight is over.

Next time try selling it on ebay! I saw someone else do that. It wasn't worth it to me, but it might be to someone if they have a lot of tickets to buy. Or post it on a board for someone else to use.

Thanks for the info on the ticket counter thing. I'll check with SW.

On the 20% discount, it was very clear that the discount was tied specifically to my Rapid Rewards number, so it wouldn't have done anyone else any good. Maybe next time!

;)

Maybe - I know someone else posted their code to the Mouseforless yahoo group, and someone got the discount. It only works once though.

I booked my SW flight for our family of 5 about 6 weeks ago. It was a promo that had the "no refund" clause. The price from St. Louis to MCO was $91 per person each way, and I was happy to get that rate. Now, however, just today I got another e-mail from SW and the same flights to/from Orlando from St. Louis is ONLY $54! Does anyone know if I have any options? Could I request a credit (although we never fly, I doubt that we's use it, much less in just 1 year). Any thoughts (besides just be happy I got it for $91 =o) )

I'm someone who did have Southwest credit back my credit card when the fares dropped. All I did was call on the phone and the customer service rep I spoke to was able to credit my cc. I guess I was lucky as I know they don't usually do that.

Call and get the credit. Ask if you can get the credit on your credit card. OR, see if you can get that credit refund form at the ticket counter that I've heard tell about.

Hi, I also got a credit back to my credit card when the Internet had a SW Special(PVD to MCO $49.00 each way). I called and spoke with a manager and she offered to put the credit back on my card. I would have been happy with a SW Credit also! Joan

I called SW, and talked to a very nice lady who helped me. She tried, but was unable to get the difference ($400) credit back on my credit card. She did, however, walk me through getting the $400 credit on-line. While the SW agent stayed on the line, I re-booked my flight. When it got to the part to pay for the new tickets, she canceled my old reservation to ensure I would still get the seats I needed. I now have a $400 SW credit for 1 year. My family rarely flys, but maybe this will force my husband & I to try a go somewhere for our 10th anniversary this year (with out the kids!).

No, that is not true, someone gave me their number and it worked fine. It was a one time only promo code.

Just got off the phone with a WONDERFUL SWA agent, who put the the difference in fares right back on my credit card. This happened because I did not change any flight times, the rates just dropped.

That did not happen to me ... please read my new thread "southwest is awful". I talked to 2 people, a representative, and someone who said they were a manager. I got nowhere - I need to call Dallas tomorrow.

Your situation is a bit different that the ones mentioned here.
Keep a nice attitude and give Dallas a try tomorrow. You never know.

Based on the info I got from this post (thank you) I called again and was told that I would get my $180.00 credit once I flew in August. The rep (Carla) was great.
The 1st rep should have all of this information but obviously did not care enough to help.

Perhaps the first agent did not know. Perhaps you should realize that there are a bizillion rules and not everyone can know them all, you were transferred to a manager, right? Did it occur to you that perhaps Carla was not correct?
I hope you get your refund, but, bad mouthing SWA because you want them to bend the rules does not present a very strong case here. I sincerely hope your attitude to these people is not the same as you have shown here. IE: name calling.

I am curious......

When I saw the internet fares on TV for $49 RT I tried calling SW to see if I could get a credit. Since I booked a month ago over the internet, I was told that I could do it online but I would have to work with the availability that is left. (We are flying out on an early flight and coming back late in the day.)

Though it would have saved me $300, there were only late flights out on our day of departure and early flights coming home. I would much rather keep the flight times we have since I already planned for the airfare at the price I paid. ( I like to maximize my Disney time!!!)

My question is "is this usually the case?"

Have a great day!

Yes, the internet only fares cannot be seen by the agents, or so they say.
Yes, the availability is what you have to work with and they do go fast.
Is this usally the case? I am not sure exactly what you are asking about. The usual case is, you can only make internet fares on the internet. The usual case is that they go fast.
I hope this answers your questions. :)

i was told by a swa agent that you can only get a "refund" if you do not change flight info at all... same flights/same times gets a refund... diff't flight/times gets a credit...

The first time I ever tried getting the better rate, I was told because it was within 48 hours of my original booking, the credit would go on my credit card. It did.

I just re-booked yesterday (for a 6/22 reservation) and got the credits for future flights.
