Hi all-

I have $438 in southwest credit that is set to expire on 02/15. However there are 6 of us taking a trip to WDW in May. I have already booked a oneway flight down because it was $89! Now, I am ready to book our return flight (it dropped to $114).

My questions are-do I have to wait until after 02/15 to have the credit extended, and will the credit apply to one-way flights or does it have to be for round trip flights only?

Thanks!

Courtney

I don't know the answer to your first question, although I have read on this board that you have to wait until your funds expire before you can pay the fee to extend them. For the second question, you can apply the funds to a one-way fare. You aren't required to book a round trip in order to use your credit.

I can answer the first question as I just did this recently. Yes, you need to wait until they expire to extend. You'll have 6 months from 2/16 to extend them. Once you pay the fee (deducted from your credit), you'll have another 6 months from the date you call to use it. I found the whole process very smooth and the people at southwest were very helpful! They will tell you it can take 7-10 business days to receive the voucher by email, so keep that in mind. Mine came the same evening as the day I called, but I guess it can be different for everyone.

I've been very happy with Southwest so far!!:goodvibes

Just so I understand this... you have up to 6mos AFTER they expire to call and extend. And then, they are extended for 6more mos from the date you called?

I could wait until the the last part of the 6mos and then extend for another 6mos and get almost another year in which to use the credits?

How much is the fee? Is it applied to the whole amount you have in credit or to individual ticket credits? For instance, there are 5 of us and so we often have 5 different credits racked up for a flight price drop.

Thanks:thumbsup2

Thank you everyone! I did end up calling southwest today and yes it is true that I have to wait until Feb16th, which is ok since we are not traveling until May. (But the price is right, right now, lol!)

I am so glad that we can use it on a one-way ticket!

Yes, this is the info I was given when I called recently. The man said he was a supervisor and often people don't believe him. So he gave me a SR number (service request #) for when I called back to expedite things. He said to keep this all in mind when planning the next flight.

So our situation was that my sis-in-law wanted to come from Chicago to Denver in Feb. to visit us. My funds expired 1/13/10. I ended up calling 1/21/10, gave the SR # and the woman who answered the phone charged me 50.00 from the 250.00 credit I had. This was for 5 of us but on 1 confirmation #. So when I received the voucher by email that evening, I had a credit for 200.00. It was in my 6 y.o. DD's name too. I guess they just picked 1 of us. Anyway, I just made the resv. yesterday. I went online to normally book a flight, when it came to payment, it asks if you have any travel funds or a voucher and I put in the voucher info. The total flight cost was 235.40. It showed I owed 35.40, which I paid by credit card. My CC is thru my bank, so I already see they charged me 35.40. Its really quite easy and I'm really happy Southwest is so accomodating. :)

I hope this helps. If you have any questions call the Customer Service #(214) 792-4223 M-F 8-5CT. This is the number I called. :goodvibes

So the fee to extend is $50? I have $100 that will expire in April and I'm not planning on traveling until late fall.
