i booked 2 one way flights to disney. the prices for the exact flights i booked went down so i "changed" my flights to the new price but did not change the actual time or day of the flight. my sil thought there was a way to get sw to credit our cc rather than have a travel credit w/sw.
has anyone gotten a credit back to their cc before in this scenario?

If the fare you originally purchasd is a refundable fare (the higher ones) you can call SW for a refund back to your credit card when you downgrade the fare.

If you originally purchased a nonrefundable fare, you will only have a "future travel credit" good for use up to a year from your original purchase date. You access the credit with your original confirmation number, so don't lose it.

Years ago you could call and get a credit back to your cc in that situation but I don't know that they do that anymore. You could call and find out.

There have been reports of people that get this credit refunded, but they seem to be few and far between. You're right though the only way to know is to call and ask.
