Southwest Credit card questions

Dh and I both signed up for a SW credit card last month to get the 50,000 points. I have a few questions, though!

When we redeem our points for our airfare to Disney, we can also purchase tickets for the kids, right? Or can they only be used for our tickets? Also, since dh and I each have a separate card, I'm guessing we have to place separate orders and won't be able to sit together?

If I use the card to pay for all of our expenses during the month in order to accumulate points, do I need to wait until my statement comes to make a payment to get points? I get nervous that we'll over spend and don't want to carry over a balance!

Final question, I thought in the posts I saw about the points for new members that there were other things you could spend your points on besides air travel. Where is that listed on the rapid rewards site? I don't see anything besides redeeming for flights.

Thanks a lot!! :goodvibes

You can use your points to purchase airfare for whomever you please.

You will need to use your points to purchase the ticket in any manner that works. Southwest has open boarding, so there are no assigned seats. If you pay for Early Bird Check In, you should be in the A boarding group and will have no problem finding seats together.

Chase does not reward you with your points until your statement closes. You can check it online long before the statement arrives in the mail. You can also use the website to mail payments at any time during your billing cycle.

Look under the "redeem for more rewards" button. You'll find it under the "how to redeem" tab on the Rewards Section.

On this point, you can pay any time. I make multiple payments online every month to pay charges almost as soon as they hit. I don't carry anything on the card, the only reason I'm using it at all is to get the free mileage. I have had no problems doing this.

I have had my Southwest card for years but we recently got one for my husband to get the 50,000 points. He is running all the household bills through the card. So mine gets gas, groceries, and other miscellaneous expenses.

I just booked tickets for our May trip to Disney and he had enough points for him and our daughter. I had enough points for my ticket. With the open seating, it doesn't matter that we are on separate reservations. I did not do early bird check in but we should be fairly close in boarding position if I check us in one right after the other. Our daughter is 20 so we really don't care if we all sit together or not.

The Southwest cards work for us. We pay our bills off in full and get at least one free flight per year based on my card alone. With adding my husband's card we now figure we should get two free flights a year.

My husband logs in on the first of the month when he gets his pension checks and pays off the balance of his card. I log in each pay day (bi-weekly) and pay the balance on mine. The points do not transfer until the statement closing date though, as another poster has pointed out.

Do you get penalized for making too many payments in a month? I've heard some say this before about paying cc pymts. That if they paid too many, they get in trouble.

I think I understand that the miles are in my SWA account rather than the cc account. Is that correct? So can I cancel the credit card and still have the miles points?

My husband just got the card for the 50,000 points and the question I can't find an answer to is does he need to create a rewards account through southwest, or will Chase set one up for him? Thanks!

When my dad applied for his they set one up for him but they did not send us the information. I had to call Southwest and have them look it up.
