Southwest Credit Card for Parents

Hi all -

My parents' 50th wedding anniversary is coming up next year. My brother and I are sending them on a tour of Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Nat'l Parks!!

Most likely, they will be flying Southwest to Las Vegas. Do you think it would be a good idea for me to sign them up for the SW CC? They're going to pay for their flight and, if the info about free companion flight is true, this would save some $$ for spending elsewhere on their trip.

Anyone have luck with this? Think this is a good idea? I'm guessing that the voucher would only be good for a one way and not round trip?

Until all the free cards go away, (I'm sure it's on the way) I don't do cards with annual fees.

Thanks, but since they don't charge much (if anything) a "free" card does no good.

Technically, that could be identity fraud. Are you saying, you would sign them up for a credit card and use their SS #'s unbeknownst to them? Not a very good idea IMHO. I would just get them SW gift cards instead.

this doesn't make sense to me. So they will have a CC that they have to pay a yearly fee on but don't use much? That seems like a waste of money to me.
And I'm with ccgirl, if you sign them up yourself that is technically identity theft, I really think you should go with gift cards instead of getting them a cc.

Check the fine print. I think the "free" flight only comes after balance transfers (for a fee) and a first purchase. And the annual fee is going to eat away at some of the money your trying to save them.
