I have never been on Southwest and I think their cancellation policy is different from Airtran so I have a question for those of you that can help. If I book 4 round trip tickets for Dec 2010 on Southwest but need to cancel them and rebook them for later in 2011, am I charged a fee or will I get the full amount for which I paid for the tickets. TIA.

You'll get a full credit for what you paid for your ticket. You won't get a refund or credit for EBCI.

You'll have to fly (not just make a reservation) within 12 months of the date of your reservation.

For any nonrefundable ticket you purchase, if you cancel, you will get the full amount of the ticket as a credit that is good for one year FROM DATE OF PURCHASE.

So, if you purchase today for December 2010, then cancel, you must travel by June 1, 2011 for the credit to be good.

Thanks for the replies. That is a lot better policy than airtran I must say. Much appreciated.

Make sure to take the TAXES you paid back in cash. That will lower the amount that you have in a credit in case rates are lower.
