One member of our family may not be making the trip to MCO next week . I've never had to cancel an air reservation and have a couple of questions.

1) Will Southwest give me credit for a future flight if the cancelled ticket was in the cheapest price tier?

2) Is there some kind of "fee" for cancelling?

3) Is there a time limit as to when I have to cancel by? Ex: If I don't cancel at least 24 hours before depature will there be some kind of penalty.

Thanks Disers! I love you guys!

You can cancel and get a credit in the name of the original ticket holder only, the credit will expire 1 year from purchase date. I am not sure what happens if you cancel at the last minute. I think with southwest you just get a credit no matter when it was canceled, but once again I am not sure about that one.

Technically, you don't even have to cancel. If the person does not make the flight, the credit is automatically credited to the confirmation number.

What if the cancelled person is a minor?

Boyfriend's daughter is 7years old. Her mom doesn't want to let her go and I've already purchased her SW ticket.

No difference. The credit will be issued in the name of the passenger on the cancelled ticket and can only be used by that person. You can call to see if SWA will make an exception, but I would not expect that they will. No harm in trying, however.

good luck. They would not allow me to purchase a ticket from my husband using flight credits from our 5 and 6 year olds cancelled flight last october.

Does the daughter know about the trip? Sure stinks if the mother has known about the trip and just now saying the daughter cannot go.
Keeping fingers crossed that the mother allows it.

Oh yes, DD7 knows about the trip...it was her idea. She had mentioned it would be her "dream" vacation, so I thought it would be a nice reward for her doing well in school.

"Mom" has brainwashed DD7 into believing our plane will crash, WDW is too far away, and she will miss her soooo much that the child is now saying she doesn't want to go. Mom's also said she wanted to be the first one to take DD7 to Disney (which will never happen as she hasn't worked in years). We're even having to do it as a "budget" trip with only one or two park days.

It's not a competition! I would be thrilled if my daughter's dad would take our daughter somewhere...anywhere. It's just a sad (and stressful) situation.
