I need to buy 9 or 10 tickets for our trip in July. The cost is $131 each way on Southwest now. It seems that tickets have gone down in cost after the initial release in the past - I can usually get it for $99 - $119 each way. When it's just the 4 of us, I don't really care about $20 or $30 difference for a ticket but with this many tickets to purchase I'd really like to get as low as possible. How far out is ideal to buy airfare on Southwest.

Airtran is another option, but they haven't released fares for July yet. THe last day I can book is Jun 29th. When do they release, and again, should I book them early or wait a few months???

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't buy them so early, although you don't say where you're flying from.

We need to get tickets for this summer, too. I'm holding off until there is a sale with better fares.

Same here. From BWI (weekends) there is nothing below 131. It's frustrating. We might have to choose to try something new in the spring next year.

We fly out of PIT too. And while I am one of those people who has no patience for waiting (and am always afraid that the prices will just go UP,) we have always, ALWAYS gotten credits back due to the fact that they go down. If you're not flying during a busy time where the flights may sell out, I would wait.

I struggled with this for my May trip, but SouthWest had their Wanna Get Away special at $90 each way from Kansas City nonstop to Orlando. I can't drive there for that price. The downside is that this is non-refundable.

But if the price goes down you can get a credit...
