Southwest booking window?

return flight for Sunday of thanksgiving weekend was almost $600 one way! good grief.

I got my flights today for December. Definitely not as good of prices as years past, and the times seemed limited compared to other years. But that’s the world today, happy to be locked in!

Supply and demand.
I have no issues with the pricing, I figured it would cost more, but the times were either super early, or super late in the day. Very limited. I figured with the demand there would be more early afternoon options.
oh well, we got what we needed, now waiting on Disney to make announcements so we can get back to planning

I get that, but before we locked in Southwest yesterday for $300pp less than AA, I followed the flight prices on the other airlines since they came out in December. They've only gone up in price and the flights are fairly wide open with seats. Maybe they will fill up as people get desperate, but Southwest did it right. They came in and undercut all the other airlines.

Really disappointed and not happy with the high prices and terrible flight times out of Memphis. I guess we will be road tripping in December.

I booked for December and honestly, these were the best prices I've seen from CT in a long time…$109-116 each way, and at the perfect times too.

But then we never see some of the deals y'all seem to get!

Just looked at the flights I was able to get. We paid $222pp for SFO to MCO one way. All flights on SW for that day are now $700+pp. Glad we jumped on them right away!

They do change their release date. If you click on "Flights" on their home screen. It is in the upper semi-banner with "Flight / Hotel / Car / Vacation", it will give you a new pop up screen. Click flights there and then on the new screen don't even bother putting in dates, simply click "!" where it shows the date they are currently accpeting reservations to. A box with pop up with the current date. Of you can bookmark that page, so you only have to click the little circle.

Those American Airlines flights aren't empty; they're filled with people who have booked the cheapest Basic fares, and therefore don't get to choose their seats in advance.

The seat map only shows you which seats have not yet been assigned to specific passengers. It is not an indication of how many tickets have been sold.

That is a good point.

I stalked our flights from the day they came out. I never saw the option for basic economy, but that's not to say it wasn't there or added later.

I'm just happy I was able to secure SW flights at 60% off the AA prices. I hope others were able to too.

I was way spoiled in the last year with the prices, so it's really hard to see these prices.
We traveled somewhere twice a month for a weekend. Always look up your tickets in secret mode on your computer/ phone mid week for the best prices. I still use skyscanner.com although it does not show SW ( shows the flight no price) it will show the others.

You can also scroll down to the bottom of the main page and click Flight Schedules and it will show the booking dates.

We are flying out on Thanksgiving day for our trip from Nov 25th to Dec 6th. Round trip for all three of us nonstop is $620. Flying from Birmingham, Al.

$620 for all 3? That's a solid price.

Flying out on Thanksgiving and back after Thanksgiving weekend is definitely a way to save some serious flight cash that time of year.
