Tomorrow my DH and I are flying on southwest for the first time.

I did checkin and got A60 and B01. I know this means that in between us all the families with children under 4 will get to board so their could be alot of people between us.

Where would a good place be for my to sit to maximize the chance that DH can stay with me when he gets on?

Since it is just the 2 of you why don't you just wait and board with him?

This happened to DW and I once. What we did is, the first person in the plane picked an empty row and sat in the middle seat. This helped us in getting to sit together. But with your boarding positions, I don't foresee any problems with you not sitting together.

Saving one seat next to you is generally accepted. You think it might be an issue. Go about 2/3 down the plane. Sit in a middle seat. Save (put a coat/briefcase/pocketbook) on either the aisle or window seat.

This is a very good idea. There will be 3 of us flying in June, but really only necessary to have 2 seats together.

I could purchase 1 Early bird ticket and use this little "tip" to assure that DS will not have to sit beside a stranger.

DS is 16 but I just feel better if he was seated next to me or DH-DS likes to chat and he has never met a stranger so I would be doing this to help a fellow traveler ;)

Holding a seat, in the back half of the plane, because one person got A60 and the other B1 isn't a big deal.

A person with early boarding trying to save an exit row seat, bulkhead seat or any seat near the front of the plane may result in some "issues". Particularly if you're trying to save a seat for someone with a B or even C BP.

Go to the back 1/3 of the plane. Less issues.

We prefer the back of the plane and always try to get those seats whenever possible, we don't mind being last off of the plane. I was just thinking that getting on a early would help to secure 2 seats together using the method you described.

We haven't flown SWA so the early bird check in is a new thing for us.

Here's another question along the same lines...

I will be traveling alone with my child...if we were to get, say an A and B boarding can we both board in the A spot or would I have to wait in the B spot?

Thanks....and sorry to go a little off topic.

Or, because you need (want) two seats together, you could purchase EBCI for two passengers. Those two can sit together; if they can save the middle seat for the person in your party without EBCI, great. If not, that person will still be on the same flight as the first two and will arrive at the same airport at the same time.

This is different from the OP's situation. That poster already checked in for the flight and ended up with a minor dilemma. They didn't plot to beat the EBCI system.

A few thoughts.....just my humble opinions.
I have no issue saving one seat..even when only one person bought EBCI. I think it's only fair that that person heads to the rear of the plane though. If you want to sit in the front of the plane, then everyone should be buying that EBCI.
I know that when my dd, dh and I were flying, I bought two EBCI's...for dd and myself. Why? I wanted to see what the sequencing was like for those who checked in at the 24 hr window vs those with EBCI...so I left my dh's reservation to be checked in at the 24 hr mark. He got high A spot, while dd and I got much lower A spots....19 and 20 I believe. I took the aisle seat, she took the window...obviously no one was upset about missing that middle seat. Saved it for dh.

Those that have young children, under 4, are allowed to board between the A group and the B group. So, if you were to get an A spot and your young child was to get a B spot, you could board together inbetween the two groups. If your child is older than 4, then perhaps you could find someone in the B group, close to your child, to switch with. Or, you must might be allowed to board together in your spot, or in the child's spot...ask the gate agent when you get there.
