Southwest Baggage Rules

I have not flown in 11 years, but I'm getting ready fly down to WDW for a quick trip. I'm flying Southwest, and I've been on the website to try to figure out their baggage rules. I'm not planning on doing a checked bag, just a carry-on. So here are some questions I'm hoping someone can answer.

I understand the 3-1-1 rule. No more than 3 oz. of liquids in a 1 quart-sized ziploc bag, only 1 bag per person. What I don't understand is:
1. Does deoderant (solid stick) have to go in the bag?
2. Is mascara considered liquid?

Also food can go in my checked bag as long as it's not opened, right? I'm planning on taking a box of granola bars for a quick breakfast before hitting the parks. I'm also taking a plastic mug (empty) for the water fountain at the parks and some individual powdered drink packets (to flavor the yukky water). Will the powder be allowed in a carry-on?

TIA!

Anything solid isn't liquid and doesn't need to go in the 3-1-1 bag (if it was a roll-on or gel deodorant, it would need to go in the bag).
Mascara IS a liquid and goes in the bag.

Just for general information, these aren't Southwest or any airline rules. They're TSA rules.

Solid food can be carried on; any liquid, creamy, or gel food can't. Your mug is fine.

LOTS of information at www.tsa.gov

Thanks for the information! Yes, I know they aren't Southwest rules; I just wanted to state what airline I would be using. I should have worded that better.

What about the powdered drink mix packets?

Thanks so much for all the help! I feel a little more prepared. Now if I can get over my nervous jitters due to flying!
