If we have a ticket for later in the day does southwest allow standby on earlier flights if there are seats available?

Also, another question about umbrellas. I know they are frowned on at the parks because of danger to other people. BUT I will be traveling to Honolulu and only taking carry on luggage. I was wanting to take a compact umbrella howeve there have been a few threads suggesting that they don't make it through security?/. I went to the TSA website and didn't see anything about umbrellas. If someone could clear this up I would appreciate it.

No. Southwest doesn't "do" standby.

A compact umbrella in one's checked luggage probably wouldn't draw a second glance. I've only ever seen 'umbrella' mentioned once, and that was a full-size one with the traditional tip. A folding umbrella wouldn't have that.

To do standby on SW with a "Wanna Get Away" fare, you have to upgrade to a "anytime" fare ticket. You can do standby for no extra charge on a Business Select or Anytime fare.

Wanna Get Away

Standby travel is permitted but requires that the Customer pay the difference between the original fare and the "Anytime" fare.

Thank you for the replies. I guess I should have checked the southwest website:rolleyes1
