I have recently received a liquid medication and was wondering how to take it on a plane. Does the 3-1-1 rule apply for medication? Can I just take the bottle it comes in onto the plane? Sorry if this has been asked before, but am nervous about the new med/travel. Thanks in advance!

Check on the TSA web site. They talk extensively about meds. You also can call Southwest. They're very nice on the phone and I'm sure they can help you. But ultimately, TSA is who makes the call.

In May I traveled with syringes and liquid meds in my carryon with no problem at all. They x-rayed my luggage, but never questioned it. You shouldn't have any problem.

Medication is exempt from the 311 rule but you have to declare it. I ususally put my medicine in a seprate ziplock and just place it in the bin with my 311 bag. Never had a problem.

I do the same as Tozzie, never had a problem either. I would definitely leave it in the prescription bottle in case they had a question.

Someone already said it correct...Medications are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule and the TSA does set the rules. Although I would like to think that WE (Southwest) knows quite a lot of information, the TSA is always a tricky one for us - sometimes we don't even have them figured out...but that is actually a good thing.

So - I would go to the source...use the link below to get info on the liquids policy!

Of course - any of our special and friendly Customer Service & Support Staff on the phone would be happy to tell you the exact same thing!!!

Thanks for flying!!! It's ON!

I kinda *am* the source (I work for TSA). Liquid medicines are not only allowed through the checkpoint, they are VERY much encouraged. We sure don't want people to be without their meds for any length of time. Soooo, that being said...when you get to the checkpoint, just make sure you let the TSO know that you have the med...it might actually be a good thing if you put it in a separate plastic ziploc baggie (in case of leaks). Good to go.

Thanks so much for all of your help! I feel better knowing that I can take my new med with me on the plane rather than in my checked luggage!
