Okay so I finally bit the bullet and scheduled my flight for President's Day Weekend with SW. I am a first time flyer so I am quite nervous about this whole thing. I have read many good and possitive things about SW from all of the experts here on disboards, so along with those things and the cheaper price I chose SW.

So I thought I would get everyone's thoughts on SW. Tell me about your experiences and what you think. Put my mind at ease about this whole flying thing please!!!!!

I love Southwest. From my airport, they are often the most convenient option and if I watch fares, they're pretty much always miles cheaper than the others. You do have to be ok with the boarding procedure - if you absolutely must have an assigned seat, SW isn't for you - but if you are, it's a great option.

We love SWA...they are always on time, never had a problem with luggage (please don't let this jinx me!), very friendly and very accomodating!
Their fares are usually reasonable and they are overall reliable and easy to use. We've never had an issue with open seating. We use them now whenever we can! :)

Thank you for your replies. The more I hear about SW the better I feel about flying.

Heres to hoping I will be flying more often! My family and I are going to Disney World in June and we are hoping to be able to make the journey via airplane instead of in a car. DH's back can't really take the 16 hour drive any more.

I fly 4 to 6 times a year .

SWA is the only one I use . I do shop around but I haven't found anything cheaper, more direct flights,And a better flight change credit policy .

they are a no frills carrier but get me where I want to go in a good time for a goos price and thats all I need.

I use my Cellphone to do the check-ins 24 hrs and have always gotten A boarding passes.

Oh and they have never lost one of our bags.Small bit of damage but none lost and sometimes I was flying with thousands of dollars worth of paintball equipment that can't be carried on.

Ok I did it at 8:00pm while on line for BTMRR so that how easy it is.

On your cell bookmark MOBILE.Southwest.com (phone has to have web access)

It will bring up a page select FLIGHT CHECKIN

It will bring up page to enter your Confirm number and Passenger name

Then hit retrieve reservation and it will check all that is in that Ressie ( if you have a different ressie number then redo for each different number{ I had to do my parents as well as ours so 2 times through})

Then when you get to the Airport and check your bags HIT REPRINT BOARDING PASS and you are all set.

I've used this about 5 times now with no problems

Just FYI, the wireless phone has to be web-enabled. If it does not have a browser function, you cannot use it to check in.

That may be your own personal experience, but it is hardly true that SWA is always on time. So far, in 2006, SWA airlines have had flight delays in arrival times for 19.66% of their flights, with an on time arrival percentage of 79.49%.

For departures, they have been delayed 23.0% of the time, with an average on time departrure rate of 76.01%.

Not terrible, but many airlines have better on time percentages.

Sorry--OT

Did you have any problems flying with paintball guns? My son will be flying from BWI this Nov for the paintball tourn @ WWS. If he doesn't fly with equip, I'm sure he'll buy something down there to bring home.

OP---we love Southwest. Easy check-in online 24 hours ahead of time. Always friendly.

We just returned yesterday from our first SW flight. We have a new favorite airline! Left on time and arrived 10 min. early. Leaving yesterday we were delayed 90 min. because the flight was late arriving, then we had to wait about 20 min. after boarding while luggage was loaded. Didn't bother us, both flights were non-stop.
