Anyone know how often Southwest "extends" their calendar?
I know they only run 6 months out, but the website has been stuck at January 7, 2010 for a couple of weeks now. I'm just waiting for the next extension so i can book my fares.

On the Travel Tools section of their website, they say:

On August 17, we will open our schedule for sale through March 11, 2011. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

You can check there to see when the next section of dates will open up. :cool1:

VERY helpful information. MANY THANKS!!! =)

They open up approximately 6-7 months in advance. They go by past performance on flights and readjust their schedules to fit the trends of passenger loads and holidays. They also adjust schedules to work around holiday traffic. The good thing about working for the airline is that I can see what flights are going to be scheduled in advance so that I can figure out my flights that I want to take for my trips. Since we're coming from the West Coast I try to make it a flight where we're on one plane the whole time.

also dont forget that if you book a fare on the higher side and a cheaper fare comes up you can book it and get a credit for the difference to use at another date. It has to be used from one year from the original book date but its still great for many DVC members since many travel down multiple times a year!!
