We are planning a major family trip (12 people) to WDW for Christmas. Does anyone have an idea when SW will release their fares for December? I'm trying to decide if I should wait and risk the fares going up on other carriers or book now. :confused3

3 months out, or so.

But you never know in the competitive biz of air travel.

They can change fares on an hour-to-hour basis.

My trusty TA (my mom) told me that Southwest only schedules 6 months in advance. We are planning a Christmas trip and found a good fare on Air Tran. We decided that we probably wouldn't find anything cheaper on Southwest. So, we booked Air Tran and we don't have to worry about calling 24 hours before our flight to get our boarding group. I feel better about having my seats assigned and I don't need to rush to the gate. We jumped on what we thought was good. I hope that we don't find a cheaper flight later.

I called the other day and she said there is no set schedule for when the release the next block. Currently only thru 8/24 seems crazy to me as way of doing business in that industry. we are looking for 8/26 so go figure

I hate waiting, but SWA always comes through for me over Christmas/New Years from Midway airport in Chicago. Last year's trip was 12/20 - 1/5 and we paid $135 RT each including taxes. I *did* have to leave a couple days earlier than I wanted to in order to get that great rate, but I had some extra DVC points laying around and we were able to check out SSR for 3 nights. We booked in late November.

I could have posted that :)

We're planning a trip for 12 as well, although we're not going with family, but 2 other families we are very close to- and we're waiting for those SW fares too. Looks like we'll be there the week before you. I'm looking at AirTran as well, although we usually fly SW.

Have fun planning- we're having our 3rd "Planning Party" this Saturday- that's when we're going to spring the news to our kids!!!:yay:

It's really hard to tell with SW. Usually it's about 3-4 months out, but for example for dates up to the 1st week of May this year (2007) the fares came out in November! You just have to keep checking. Are you signed up for their email newsletter? That's how I found out they released the fares so early for our May trip, if I didn't get their emails, I wouldn't have even started checking for our dates til Janurary, when I got the email in November for our dates in May, I couldn't believe it!!!!!!

Best bet...especially for Christmas time travel, is to set a price you are comfortable with and when you see it, whether it's Air Tran, SW, or whoever,
just book it!

We are in the same boat, do we wait for Southwest, or go with Airtran now? Still haven't decided, we are going in December also.
