Southwest 50,000 pt. promotion

I am waiting too and I am so nervous! I just saw the flights went up today. I need flights for the end of September and feel crazy that I haven't bought them yet! aaah!

The only info I have is that I had read somewhere that SW seems to have this offer every 3 months or so, and it was last released feb 27-Mar 27. I tried calling SW a few times to see if I could get the promo but they said they couldn't. They told me to keep checking the website to see if the 50,000 promo is there. So that is what I have been doing....but I am so tempted to just get the 25000 points. I feel like I am waiting until the last minute!
When are you flying? Am I cutting it too close?

The last 2 years it came out around Halloween, just in time for the Xmas holidays. I held out all of 2012 and applied in the fall when it came out again.

I always find better deals with MHT, plus it's so convenient there! We haven't paid more than roughly $100 each way through MHT.

Honestly, if you need the tickets for end of Sept and are waiting for the credit card points, that is cutting it pretty close.

Even if they offer it, you would have to wait to receive the card (took a month last time we did it, but normally it's around 10 days), then you would have to spend the required $2000, then wait for your billing cycle to end and the points to post. I suppose it could be done, if it's offered right away and you spend quickly, and request your billing close date to be moved up.

For the record, I got one last July, another in November, and DH got another in February, so the every three month rule might be about right.

I am actually on my third card, and so is DH. We cancelled the first one a while ago. I called last month to cancel my second one (was just a regular one, third one is a premier - none of these were business accounts), I told them I had two and didn't need this one, and he still asked me to keep it and he'd give me 3000 more points.
The annual fee will be due in July so I will be sure to cancel it then. I'm probably going to keep the premier card, but it gives 6000 bonus points on my anniversary ($99 fee).

edited to add, when I applied for my third one in November (and DH's second one then), we added our teenage son's name on the account, which is why I think we got approved, I fully was expecting a denial since it was my third time. When DH applied again in Feb, I added my other son's name on that account, and it also got approved. Now he is almost to companion pass status

Thanks for the tips, Lurker. The other day I broke down and got the 25000. I figured that if I waited too long the prices/mile points would go up and I would spend the same, if not more for my tickets in the end. Hopefully I made the right choice. Now I just need it to come in the mail.

orryI got so excited I guess I forgot to put any info. I just went to southwest.com and it popped up on the main page for a limited time get 2 free roundtrip tickets, when you look at the details it shows 50,000!
