Southwest 50,000 miles is back

you can look on their site now to see how many reward flights they have available and then I guess just keep checking until you get your points to see if flights are being sold out.
Every seat on every SWA flight can be purchased with points. The only time that they sell out is when the flight itself sells out. The Rapid Rewards program changed a couple of years ago when they went from an Awards-based program to a Points-based program.

Thanks for the suggestion! Where on the site can I check that?

just look up the flights you're interested in, just as you were going to book and then you can click to see the fare in $$ or in points.
I'm also planning to use my points to book for mid-April. I've been keeping an eye on the flights I want to see if there's any fluctuation in price/points.

Thank you for this post!!! I had the offer about two years ago, so maybe that's when it changed. I was given two free roundtrip flights, not points, so this change makes sense since purchasers are being credited 50,000, not just two free flights (meaning you can use the points however you like). That's a big relief! I'll be seriously considering this. Thank you again!

One last question - do you know how quickly you get the points credited to you when you spend the $2000?

i just got my card last month, spent the $2,000 and got the points credited when that first billing cycle ended.

Ooh, I've been waiting to do this... How many free flights is 50,000 points? (I mean, approximately?)...

Depends on where you are going but I just booked 7 one way flights from PDX to LAX and still have 10,000 points in my account. Next month when the June flights come out I will use my husbands points to book the other 7 for the flight home. This is saving us over $1100 for flights for our trip next year. My husband and I both got approved for separate cards so we have 100,000 points to use.

It varies tremendously, but you can almost certainly get 2 round trips out of it. I got the card 2 months ago and my points from this month, with the promotion, were just added to my account. My balance is 53,000 and change, which is enough to buy 3 round trip Wanna-Get-Away tickets to Disneyland (SNA) from Austin.

Now, Southwest had a special last week that was up to 40% off fares. Mine was 35% off, so I bought it with my southwest Visa for double points. I couldn't pass up the deal, even though my 50,000 points weren't active yet. Had my points been active, I would have been able to buy 4 tickets for just the $5 Security fee per ticket. So I'll build up my points until my next Disney trip.

50,000 points is kind of like an $833.33 Gift Card to use on Southwest Flights, but you you can't partially pay for a one way trip.

The flight I want is 21,000 pts. For a 1~way, so I'll get 2 one-way flights with my 50k

How are you finding this? It is not linked through southwest website or chase site? I found no phone number to call to apply...

Applied but got a letter saying I already have a southwest chase visa. So no go. I do have a personal one, a business one, my husband has both too. we just got a southwest companion pass due to my husbands new card last winter getting the 50,000 points.
I am happy with all this, but thought worth a try!

That is the same site I found but I wonder if it's a scam to gain personal info. It seems that it should be linked to the southwest site or even the Chase site. I wonder what is going on- I have to say I am suspicious and even though the page "looks real" the pieces don't fit together. Darn it- I need those points!!!!!!

southwest.com/park (advertised on a Parking Spot shuttle), or
southwest.com/mag2 (advertised in Money magazine)

here are a few ways to apply

Here is a direct link to the Southwest credit card page. It lists four different types of credit cards, all of which receive the 50,000 mile bonus. Hope this helps.

i seriously hate chase, so i applied for the $99 fee one for DH:duck:. He's on my CCs, figured it'd be good for him to have one in his own name for a change.

Too bad it says 7 - 10 days for approval, could knock off most of the $2K spending minimum for the points over black friday weekend.
