Southwest 12/1 computer glitch???

The Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for air travel.

Agree with this which is why we have avoided return on Sunday over Thanksgiving weekend. For us it typically was the most expensive day to return. However this year it can't be helped which is why I am still waiting for those flights on 12/1 to appear.

I also called SW about an hour ago and although I didn't ask about the flights being discounted the CSR didn't offer up the information either, but probably not something she would want to tell me. She apologized and said they were working on getting the system up and they expected it would be sometime tonight. However I am not counting on that one too much. This morning they told me it would take 2 hours. Then they told me it would be up by this afternoon and now they are saying this evening. I am not holding my breath for good rates either.

I needed Nov 7-12 and when I went online at 6:45 this morning, I was able to book 2 r/t Wanna Get Away fares for a total of just under 19,000 points. Now, the WGA fares are sold out. I am SO glad I booked when I did!

I just got off the phone with customer service and was told there won't be the discounted airfares in most markets for December 1st.

I'm considering Dec 1st from Buffalo too. Those cannot possibly be the true fares. Jetblue's direct flight is $197, Southwest is well over $400 one way! Can you imagine when the fares start going up! So much for a "low cost carrier". :rolleyes1

So I just went on the Airtran site to check Southwwest's prices thru there. It only lists about 1/2 the flights that show on the SW site, no prices & says "sorry, no flights available for those dates". I think they still haven't fixed the computer glitch.

My 12/1 return flight (Not MCO) has started to load ....but only the first flight of the day and nothing more. The price previously was $399 one way for Anytime, it shows $349 for the Wanna Get Away Fare. Not a good sign. Will have to see how it goes.

Looks like they fixed it overnight.

12/1 still shows no Wanna Get Away fares, but the "sold outs" have disappeared, at least for the airports/dates I've been checking. 12/1 is still :scared:

Well the one fare listed lasted for about an hour and then disappeared. This morning still nothing. Quite frustrating to say the least.

I can't even load the page for swa. I called to see if their was a problem with the site but the cs lady was rude and said it must be my computer. I can get on southwest vacations without a problem just to southwest.com

I called again this morning because I still couldn't book a Wanna Get Away Fare for 12/1 and the CSR told me they had received a memo that said there wouldn't be any Wanna Get Away Fares for that day. I didn't ask if that included all markets but I knew our route wasn't loading. I had thought of an alternative yesterday that wasn't the best but will work out okay since I just can't pay those full prices for 12/1. At first I thought those prices had changed since yesterday but luckily they have not.

Do you mind sharing your alternative?

Sorry if I made my post seem like it was an usual or creative alternative, it wasn't. I changed our travel dates. We have to be back by Monday morning which is why we originally wanted to travel on 12/1. When the glitch wasn't being fixed yesterday I looked at the day before/after schedules to see if anything else might work. Not perfect but doable even with scheduling difficulties that will need to be addressed on my end.

Sunday was just out of the question. Much too cost prohibitive. Actually the flight we booked has already gone up $36 per person. We have traveled often on this weekend and I always hold my breath until I know what the airfare is going to be.

Hmmm, maybe if everyone finds alternate arrangements, they'll have to rethink that decision. :scratchin We are going next week & planned to go again Dec 1-7, but I'm not paying $900 one way for 2 people, even if it the busiest travel day of the year. I'll add or subtract a day before I pay that. Or maybe look at a different airline!

I agree :thumbsup2 With some adjustment I was able to make it work but definitely looked at alternate airlines. I had $200 in SW gift cards so that helps. Still I would have gone a different route if couldn't have got the flight at a price that was reasonable to me.

I will be curious to see how this plays out. Wonder how many people will pay those prices!?

I booked on another airline. It was $578 for a flight that had a layover and plane change on southwest. I booked for $421 on another airline. Even with the bag charge we are looking at $446. I do realize this is one of the most expensive days to fly. We use to go home a day later but with a high school junior we can't afford to miss school.

We ended up adding an extra day, and flying to MCO on 11/30. It was CHEAPER (by a lot!) to stay at Art of Animation for a day than to buy full-priced plane tickets!

We got some pixie dust our way. My sister was able to get the discounted airfare for 12/1.

Here's what happened. I called customer service on Monday and was told that 12/1 was not going to get the discount for most markets (I posted that right after I talked with them a page back). Later on that same night I called customer relations to file a complaint. The agent promised me that I would be happy when I checked their website Tuesday morning (I took that to mean that we were in one of the markets they were going to offer the discount). So I hung up in a good mood. I woke up early again on Tuesday to only find that nothing changed and continued to check for a couple of hours. After a couple of hours with no change, I called customer relations again and was told again that there would be no discounted fares for that day. The agent never even apologized for the other agents out right lie and I thought he was condescending and rude. All day I was thinking about how the agent lied to me, so on my way home, I called once again and got a gem of agent. Explained everything and long story short, he was able to hook me up with 4 discounted tickets on the direct flight for my sister's family. He apologized for the agent that gave me misinformation.

That is great! :thumbsup2 It was definitely a frustrating day and I called several times myself and was told that eventually everything would be updated and of course it never was. I can' imagine this is going to be a good move for SW but what do I know.
