Flame Tree sounds like a good lunch option for the day we are at AK. Is it or am I going to think it's not very good because of all the great offerings where we live? Please don't take offense Northern Friends!

It's good, but it is not Southern barbecue. ;) DH likes the ribs and I like the rotisserie chicken. DD liked the fruit plate. We didn't try the pulled pork since we can get that at home (and I can make my own), but we might try it next time. Everything we have tried has been tasty. :goodvibes

Thanks! Fruit plate would be perfect for our daughters too. Think I'll keep Flame Tree and Yak & Yeti both on the list. :thumbsup2

Well, I don't know what's not southern about the Flame Tree ribs & sauce :confused3 I'm from south LA and it's the kind of sauce every southern cook I know uses - tomato - brown sugar based. It's very good! By the way, where do you live and what kind of BBQ sauce do you consider southern? Here in NC it's a thin vinegar base, nothing like what we consider southern - just eastern. Oh, just saw you were from Wilmington.

I've had bbq from NC to Memphis, KC to Owensboro, and Flame Tree holds up. The ribs are very good. Pulled pork is fine too. It's sweet, not vinegary. Also, if you love beer, try the Safari Ale.

:confused3 Are you saying us Northerners don't know BBQ:lmao:

:thumbsup2 we like it here there and everywhere

:cool1:we like it up, down and all around
:lovestruc we like it red, brown, sweet and spicy

FLAME TREE BBQ is one of the better/best WDW property counter service establishments.

Flame Tree rocks, eat there every year! BBQ is one of my favorites and have ate it all over the south.

I am from Texas and we had the ribs during our past October trip. On a scale of 1-10 we gave them a 5. Just did not like them.

:confused3 I've had them in TX as I'm from next state over and taste about the same to me - no problems - our favorite CS. :thumbsup2

Living in NC right on the border of Eastern and Western NC bbq with access to phenomenal versions of both and Flame Tree is terrific. We never ever miss an opportunity to eat there. DH goes for ribs and I do the chicken and we share.

It isn't exactly like any specific kind of bbq (Memphis, KC, North Carolina, Texas) but it's dang good. The sauce is more tomato base than vinegar (and I prefer the tomato type sauce better, though I usually hate bbq sauce, but Flame Tree's I could drink by the cupful).

Another Texan chiming in. We love Flame Tree even if it isn't the same as what we get at home. More of a dry rub rib, but that's okay.
You don't always have to drown things in sauce right? Plus, my husband carries Tabasco wherever we go anyway. And sweet n low too. Disney doesn't ever have that.

To the Northerners... I don't think the poster meant any offense. There are just different types of BBQ right? Even in the mid states like Tennessee and Missouri you get a completely different kind of BBQ than if you head to Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi. BBQ, it's like a culinary accent or dialect.

Not meaning to start a debate about barbecue - I did say I liked it. :confused3

:thumbsup2 Said much better than I did, and apparently much less controversially. ;)

We love flame tree bbq. Its the 1 place we eat lunch at every AK visit. The bbq is more of the smoky-sweet style. I don't think you will be disappointed.

lol. I sort of figured my q might start a little static. Of course there is fantastic bbq all over the country. I lived North, way North and now way South. We just have a lot more bbq joints per capita and therefore I didn't want to be sitting there at the table saying 'well that was ok, but why did we use our credits on bbq??'. I don't have a sauce/rib style preference. I like all walks of yummy bbq. As long as it's tender and flavorful, I'm in. Just didn't want to be the family that came from Naples, ate a Pizzafari and then whined that it wasn't good. Hope this clarifies my original question. Again, thanks for the feedback on it being good/fruit plate. Keeping it on my list. :goodvibes

I get it. :goodvibes We went to NYC a few years ago, and some of the travel guides and online sites were talking about a great BBQ place. We weren't sure if it was really a great BBQ place or just a great BBQ place for NYC, since they don't have many. Either way, we know we can get great BBQ at home (on both sides of the tomato/vinegar dividing line ;)), so we weren't going to "waste" a meal on barbecue in NYC when we could get so many other things. Wilmington is sorely lacking in good pizza though (we have a couple of reasonably good places, but not many), so we were up for some good Italian in NYC and found it.

We think Flame Tree is the best counter service in AK. The only downside is that it is all outside seating, so if it is super hot or super cold or raining, you might look elsewhere. We weren't impressed with Pizzafari (which is saying something since we don't have great pizza at home ;)), and we thought Yak n Yeti CS was just OK. We did like Yak n Yeti TS a lot, though (but there are only a couple of good Asian restaurants here, too, so take that for what it's worth).

Fellow Tarheel native chiming in. We love FT BBQ. DW likes the beef BBQ, me and kids like the pork. Sauces are great too. Its one of our fave CS in WDW.

DH & DD both thought the pulled pork sandwiches were good, not great. They both zeroed in on my chicken though. It was excellent. Vultures. :goodvibes

Thanks for all of the answers! We are also going to eat lunch here on our next trip. Glad to know it won't be a waste :)
