Southern Dunes Villas for Trainspotters

Just a quick note for any of you booking with Travel City Direct a villa holiday.

We were placed in Southern Dunes, south West of WDW on the higheway 27 near Haines City by Contempo, the local villa management agencies.

At first the villa seemed a huge distance from WDW but we were close to an I4 junction (8 miles) and the parks were between 20 and 30 miles away.

The main point is that of trains and this may affect others in properties along the No. 27. at other developments.

Approx 500 yds from our villa was a single track rail line which ran 24 hour freight services north-south along roughly the line of the 27. Trains were ok & bearable but the horns are used all through the night and at times seemed like we were gonna get a train right in our swimming pool.

We were tempted to ask to relocate but after unpacking and visiting Walmart we did not want the aggravation.

So if there are any of you light sleepers out there, it may be worthwhile checking whether you have a problem too.

I have to say that I have owned a home on the 27 for 5 years admittedly nowhere as near south as Southern Dunes but have yet to hear a freight trian blow it's horn so I believe that this is something that would affect the southern end by the i-4 only.

Thanks for the warning Ace, it's not one I've heard specifically about that location before, to be honest there are railwaylines running through a lot of the Orlando area, maybe you had an unlucky run with the driver(s) having a reason they needed to use their horns ( repairs or suchlike) as usually they would only be used as a warning for a specific reason. It would be interesting to know if this was an ongoing problem ( like a warning at a level crossing) , or just a one off caused by a specific, but unknown reason.

Southern Dunes is way past I-4. Its about 8-10 minutes drive from there down to Haines City. Southern Dunes is entered using the access road up the side of WalMart on the edge of Haines City.

Very convenient for both WalMart and Winn Dixie which is on the other side of the entrance. Both are within walking distance.
