Does anyone have any insight into why ABD has waitlist for some of the summer SE Asia trips? I was told they were probably on-hold as perhaps ABD couldn't get hotel reservations for the times needed. Unfortunately, the prices went up over 20% in less than a week.

Did someone from ABD tell you that was the reason? Usually when a trip is wait listed it's either because it is booked to capacity or because a group or travel agent has reserved that date.

ABD said they didn't know - and offered both of those reasons as possibilities - either that a group was going to book it, or perhaps it was in danger of being cancelled. Whatever the reason, it seemed to significantly increase the price of the available tours.

From what we've seen, the price on specific departures goes up as more people sign up for those specific dates. But who knows? ABD may have changed their policies yet again! I don't think the fact that the tour you looked at went to waitlist is what caused the other trips to go up in price. It might just be a coincidence. :confused3

Sayhello

ABD will increase the price of the tours if they start getting really good response to the tour. This happened with Scotland last year one day it was one price the next week it was $1000 more. So the moral of the story is to book early and get the cheaper prices.

Or buy DVC :). We get opening prices on our trips even if the price has gone up. It's a great perk.

I do have to agree with this, I booked the Italy trip when I returned from Scotland, I got the 5% discount and the opening day price and the price difference without the 5% discount was over $1000 that is a nice perk that just started I think last year.
