Hi all

Dh has decided that he wants to visit South of the Border, SC. AND he wants to go tomorrow!!. So nice to have advance notice isn't it?

I'm glad he wants to go someplace. This past week has been rather rough for him and i know he needs to get away somewhere. Why he picked a place 6 hours away i have no idea.

Anyway, i need to know quickly how nice the hotel is OR if there are good hotels nearby. I don't feel like driving 6 hours and then finding a place to sleep for the night. I like to book ahead of time if i can.

Also Catholic church help would be handy so we can make Mass if at all possible. If not, i'll settle for hotel help.

Personally I wouldnt stay in the SOTB motel itself (rather seedy), however, just beyond...maybe a couple of miles south, in Dillon, SC, there is a fairly new Hampton Inn as well as several other major chain motels (sorry, can't recall offhand which they are, but probably the usual array found in that area, ie: Best Western, Days Inn, etc ) good luck

Not only is the hotel there seedy, the whole place is....we walked into one of the restaurants and walked right out again, GROSS!!

I would agree as well. The next exit (I think it is Dillon) South, there are a huge array of hotels.. I do remember seeing the Hampton Inn as well as other chains.

I've only seen SOTB at 2-3 am, so in the darkness, its interesting. (2-3 am is usually when we pass SOTB on the way to FL!)

I'm imagining it to look pretty dingy in the morning light.

Please do not stay in SOTB. It really is a dump---not even really worth going to. Maybe an hour or so visit just to say you were there, but certainly not worth a special ride too--bad element, very seedy and dirty.

I agree, don't bother. When I was there you even had to pay a quarter to use the restrooms - which were as scummy as you can imagine.

Ok, i promise not to stay in their hotel.
Anybody with any good opinions of the place?

Please?

Sorry, but I don't have anything positive to say about the place other than driving by there at night is like a neon heaven! The stores are all the same.....tourist crap! It's like gathering all the shops of a beach together....they all have the same thing. If you like looking at that kind of stuff it is a great place to visit, but I would not stay overnight nor would I eat there.

I can't imagine going out of my way to go to South of the Border. For that matter, I can't imagine stopping when we're driving right by. Have you been before?

I went there when I was really young (about 8) and don't remember too much. I remember going into a big sombrero??? I dunno, I thought it was neat.

OK, fortunately I have Dh on IM right now. Looks like sharing your opinions has talked him out of going down to South of the Border. Thanx very much for your help.

DH and I are going to Nags Head instead of SOTB thank goodness. Thanx for the help all. I'd have hated to get all the way down there and find out the place wasn't worth the drive. And as far as Fireworks go. I can buy them here:rolleyes:
