South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Hi to everyone. I haven't exercised in two days unless you call 2 hrs of pt exercise. I just tole dd1 that the only way I would find time to exercise regular is to do it first thing in the morning before work. she thinks I's crazy because I like being to work between 6 and 7. This time of year all the hours at the office are needed.

I have stuck to my 1 soda per day and am trying to eat earlier. It is hard breaking the habit of eating between 8 & 9 which has been my schedule for years.

Posting on this forum give makes me want to actually stick with my goal. Everyone is an inspiration because of there struggles and they still manage to lose.

Onward and downward.

My daughter said I should admit I had 2 reeses peanut butter eggs tonight. They only have 75 cals each but the fat content is high. I told her I still stayed within the 1500 cals my trainer set up for me. :cool1:

Hi everyone! Like Lisa, I've been MIA. I started back on SB 1/1/05 and it has been a slow-go as far as the weight loss goes. I've lost the 10 lbs I gained over the holidays, but that's it. I've been at a stall for over a month. I've been working out religiously and watching every morsel that goes into my mouth so I'm at a loss.

Is there anyone out there that is doing the same thing as me....at a stand-still? I have at least 20 more lbs to lose to get into a size 8/10.

Thanks for any input you can give me. Lots of SB love!!! :flower:

Hi weirdeyes - I've been on SB since 1/10/05. I've lost 12 lbs so far, but 8 or 9 of that was in the first 2 weeks......for 2 weeks in a row I lost like a quarter of a pound a week .......and then the next week I lost 1.5 ..... so the quarter of a pound weeks were frustrating because I was exercising and wasn't cheating but nothing to show for it pound wise.......I've been told that the scale is "pure evil" :) (by Sheree a few posts back) and that you should look for results in other ways (inches lost etc) and the weight will eventually come off.....hang in there !

Good afternoon Beachers!

Here is my Day 3 Oprah boot camp challenge update. I was up to 187.5 pounds Monday which was a bummer. The good news is that I'm back down to siggy weight today at 185 pounds, yay! I'm never at siggy weight in the middle of the week (yes, I'm a scale addict of the worse kind and weigh everyday). I can't believe I'm down 2.5 pounds since we started. It's so nice to able to move forward and not feel like you have to cover ground you've already covered before.

This morning I did 2 work outs. I've never done two back to back like this. It was a little tiring but so worth it! I did Firm Fat Blasting Cardio and followed it up with Cathe Friedrich's Basic Step+Body Fusion - the lower body add on segment for a total of 53 minutes - so I got a nice mix of cardio and light weights. I'm very proud of myself. Tonight I need to the double work out so I'll be doing Firm Cardio Sculpt Blaster. I will definitely be taking my rest day for the week tomorrow!

Here's my menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese and 4 thin slices of lower fat bacon with a cup of hot tea
S: a few cashews
L: a bowl of Progresso's Carb Monitor soup (chicken cheese enchilada)
S: a nectarine
D: chicken breast (dusted with parmesan cheese and fried in a little canola oil) and broccoli with lf cheese sauce with 1 no sugar added fudgesicle for dessert

Sandy - it's nice to meet you, thanks for the support, I appreciate it!

Jeremy - thanks for the welcome back! It's good to posting on our thread again. I know this will help keep me focused as I work toward goal!

NYcpa - I work out first thing in the morning and lately since I'm trying to get in close to an hour work out per day, I get up at 5:00. It's hard but I know I won't work out after I get home from the office so it's early or nothing!

Shelia - I can feel your pain! My weight loss was so slow that if I lost 1/2 pound I was happy. But I know it was because of all the whole grains I was eating. Sheree really helped to set me straight and I realized that I am just not one of those people that can eat a lot of ww products and lose the weight. In your case, you might want to shake it up a bit with your eating. Have you considered going back to Phase 1 for a bit? I was really resistant to it at first but joining Oprah's challenge is basically eating Phase 1 for a month so I just jumped in with both feet Monday and I'm glad I did. The 2.5 pounds I lost in 3 days shows that I was eating too much of on plan foods. That may not be the case with you but it's a thought. I know they say the closer you get to goal the harder it is to lose. You've got 20 to lose and I've got about 35. We can find a way to do this together and like Sandy says if we keep at this long enough, the weight has to come off. I was just reading someone's 100 pound lost story on lowcarfriends and she said it took her 3-1/2 years to take the weight off. Now that is patience! Btw, I want to end up in a size 8 too so we have something else in common!

hello everyone! Kathy, keep it up, but be careful. Anything off plan will stall you and make you lose days maybe even weeks of hard work.

Sheila, welcome back. It is slow going. I agree with Lisa about adding in variety and stay off of so many of those things that made you gain weight from the beginning. I ate very little ww products and mostly meats, veggies, salads and things like that. Hang in there, it will come off, I promise.

Sandy, I'm so glad you listened. The scale is so evil. Lisa knows it too, she's like me just obsessed. I have had the scale problem, but I'm learning to break it. Hang in there, Your progress will be so worth it.

Lisa, glad to see you back. I'm cheering for you. I know that mixing it up is a great way to go with both your diet and your exercise.

That being said, I am so happy. I found the cutest suit yesterday, and while the top fit, the bottom didn't. That was a size 4!! I had to have the skirt taken in today another 4 inches. I was baffled. I know that means that the new exercise routine that I'm doing is working. My body is reshaping. Nope, it not in the scale, but in those inches. I said all this to encourage all you scale obsessors, that inches play a huge part in this weight loss game. Me in a 2, who would have guessed it, not me. Hang in there everybody, I know you can make it.

Good morning everyone! Well, today is my weigh-in day and I'm still the same. It is so frustrating!

Lisa & Sheree, I went back on Phase 1 for a couple of weeks and I lost NOTHING! Maybe I just need to do a combination of the two (Phase 1.5)? I might try that starting on Monday and see how I do. Thanks for your help.

Lisa, I've followed your weight loss on this thread for a while now. You've done so well. I've seen your pictures and you look wonderful. We'll definitely have to stay in touch and cheer each other on. :cheer2:

Sheree, I forgot to mention that I too use the tape measure as a tool. However, the inches are budging either even though my workout routines are very vigorous. I wonder if I should step it up by working out in the mornings as well? It will kill me though as I have to get up at 5AM now to get to work by 7AM.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all. Hey Lisa. Missed you. Well, I am going to measure today because I sure feel like I am smaller. I am trying not to weigh in everyday, not easy for me. I am hoping to get a great dress for a party this weekend. I am waiting until the day before to shop so I am at my absolute smallest. Well, I am now to Day11 in Phase 1. No cheating except for a meal my mom made which had the smallest amount of bread crumbs. I couldn't hurt her feelings. Other than that, I am guilt free. Can't wait to take off all this wait. I am back to Pilates, I love them. So much easier for me than aerobics. I am trying to ride my stationary bike for cardio. I am concentrating on fluids and portion control. I hope to have a total of 10 lbs off by the end of Phase 1. That would leave 10 to go to goal. I have 8 off so far.
Lots of encouragement and congrats to everyone on the Beach. Look how much of a head start we all have on Summer. We can do it!!! :cheer2:

I just measured!!! I am so glad I did. Since New Year's, last time I was measured (at a spa for a treatment), between my upper waist and lower thigh..........

I have lost 14 1/2 inches!!!!!! Whoo Hooo!!
:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I only have time for a quick post.

Day 4 of the Oprah challenge. I want to report that I'm down another 1/2 pound. That makes 3 pounds since Monday, woohoo!!!!

Exercise: I went home and did my "double" work out which for me was actually my third work out of the day. I did Firm cardio sculpt blaster. It was pretty tiring doing 83 minutes of exercise in one day. I think I'm going to scare these last 35 pounds off my body! I am taking a much needed rest day today.

Melissa - congratulations on losing all those inches!!!!

I gotta run now but I'll check back tomorrow. Keep up the great work everyone!

Melissa, congrats!!! I'm telling you that losing inches will help change your body shape and you will look and feel so much better!

Lisa, congrats to you. Just changing it up seems to be working for you.

Sheila, hang in there. There were WEEKS when nothing changed for me. I wanted to scream and hit the closest person next to me, but I kept at it and it would start moving again. Sometimes are body goes through adjustments. Hang in there!

Melissa, a BIG congrats for those inches lost. That is WONDERFUL!!

Lisa, you've finally gotten over the hump....3 lbs is fabulous! Maybe I need to step up my workouts and lower my carb intake to get the scale moving again. Good job!

Sheree, thanks for the encouragement. I really need it right now. :)

This week has been a good week. I lost 3lbs this week and I am sporting a new clippie and a color change too. Yesterday, I went to a health fair on campus where I teach. They had one of the machines you held out in front of you to test your body fat percentage. I was at about 31% body fat. Not great but too bad at about 290lbs. When I had done some of the calculators online I was getting reading from 46% (just looking at height and weight) to 24% (www.mybodycomp.com). So that result was in the middle and probably more accurate. This just went on to show me that the Federal Government Guidelines are totally out of character for a person like me. According to the BMI, I should weight AT THE MOST 204 lbs. Right now I have almost 200lb of lean mass and I would be at a healthy body fat % (20% for a man) if I weighed 250lb. I will probably lose at least some lean mass (skin, water, hopefully not muscle) while I'm losing the fat so I will probably need to lose a little more weight. My initial goal was around 225lb and that seems about right after looking at this. Even though that's a BMI of almost 28. I know I will need to keep track of thing as I lose. But, is there some flaw in my logic? They also checked blood sugar and I was in a good range there.

Sheila, sometimes even the slightest changes can produce great results.

Jeremy, WTG!! Love that new clippie :cheer2: :cheer2:

Good morning Beachers,

Here is Day 5's report of the Oprah challenge. I'm down another 1.5 pounds which means I've lost 4.5 pounds since Monday's weigh in. I'm down 2 pounds from my siggy weight and what's most exciting is that I'm at 99.5 pounds lost! Just another 1/2 pound and I'll be claiming membership in the 100 pound club! Woohoo!!!!! I am beyond excited. If I would have known that cutting out the whole grains and upping my exercise routine would have produced these types of results, I would have done this weeks ago.

Exercise: I did Firm BSS3 Total Muscle Shaping (45 minutes) for my work out this morning.

Jeremy - what a beautiful clippie you have there!!!! I'm not sure how all the body fat calculation stuff is supposed to work. I use mybodycomp too and it's pretty confusing to me when I check my stats from month to month but makes a lot more sense when I take my first profile and compare it to my most recent profile. Whatever the case, you are doing so well and should be so proud!

Shelia - I would definitely recommend that you try upping your exercise and lowering the carbs, as Sheree says, it helps to shake things up a bit sometimes. I knew that's what I needed to do but I was mentally resistant to the idea of cutting out the grains but now I'm so glad I did/am. Please let us know when you get the scale moving again.

Hi Sheree, I hope you're having a good Friday.

Hi to all the other beachgoers!

Jeremy, you are doing great!

Lisa, WOW!!! I am so inspired by you! You go girl!!! :flower:

Sheree, I'm going to try and cut some whole grains out, but not all of them. I'm going to keep eating a whole grain cereal, but change from Post Shredded Wheat 'n Bran to Fiber One. It has twice as much fiber as the Post. I might try adding an additional workout in the AM...God help me...I'll have to get up at 4:20AM!! YIKES!

WTG Lisa and Jeremy !!

Sheila - cereal is the thing I missed the most during the first two weeks of SBD and the first thing I've added back ! I've been eating All Bran w/ extra fiber and Fiber One ! Hope the switch works for you !

Lisa, wtg sweetie. We are so pround of you. I guess sometimes it just has to click inside.

Sheila, try giving a little. I think it will help you out greatly. I also think that upping the exercise will give you an extra edge. Just remember that you might put on a little as you begin to exercise more, muscle weighs more than fat. Don't get discouraged nor give up
