Hey all, I just wanted to ask what time of the year do these south american groups come to wdw. I'm going aug. 31 - sept. 10. Last year we went around the same time and I didn't see any groups with flags. I just got done reading a another thread on another forum and it said they mostly come during the summer. Does anyone have any background on when they populate the world mostly? Thanx all :thumbsup2

P.s. I'm not that worried about it...just want to be prepared

I just got back last night. We were there for a little over two weeks. We go every July and they are there EVER july.....Flags and chants out the wazooo !!

I swear if you even make eye contact they get louder. It seems the more you look at them the more they feed off of it and the Louder they get. It wouldnt be that bad if they would just be quiet during the actual shows/rides.

We were in the festival of the Lion King and they were chanting and yelling the whole time. They could care less that people were trying to watch it and God forbid you say something....they pretend they dont understand you....look at one of their friends and start screaming their chants even louder.

That is unbelievably RUDE! I would be pissed if I couldn't enjoy my vacation because people don't have any respect for others. If there not there to to see Disney and the attractions then they should just stay home. :furious: I don't plan on visiting Disney when the tour groups are there.

Umm, and why did the CM's not call security if they were that obnoxious, especially during a show. I would think they would muster up the knowledge to understand the words "you will be kicked out if you don't straighten up" real fast. What a shame such people are so rude.

Greetings,

I know that this is going to sound ethnocentric but as a group, they can turn a magical place into a miserable one very quick. If you happen come upon an attraction or area with flag carrying group that are speaking Portuguese ever so loud, turn around and go and do something else. They will do everything that they should not, for example, talking (loud) during films, preshows, attractions. Also, get use to flashes going off during "dark rides" and kids/young adults cutting up in queue lines and attractions.

I believe the problem stems from lack of supervision. There is probably one chaperon for every 50/60 teens. Also, I once spoke to CM about the situation and I was informed of the different classes in Brazilian culture. They as a country don't have a large middle class but rather only the rich and the poor. So the ones visting are either real lucky to be there or feel entitled to do and say as they please. In other words, the CM told me it was a social/economic reason for their behavior .... I think universally it is known as just being plain rude .... no matter what your soc/econ background.

I solved the problem buy going at different times of the year such as Oct. & Jan. Also, wanna see a CM fret & sweat? Tell 'em a group of 75 of the flag people are behind you.

-Chuck

PS.... putting on flame proof suit now. Fire away

Just back from three weeks in the Kingdom and unfortunately I must agree with some of the comments of the previous posters. Although I enjoy witnessing their youthful enthusiasm for life; the chanting, shoving, yelling and cutting does tend to grow old. I also didn't enjoy the practice of lining up several groups (10 to 12+) of 70 or 80 individuals along Main Street beginning at 7:00pm for performances of Spectro and Wishes. Both sides of the street were routinely taken from the entrance to the hub by serveral tour groups. Unless you were willing to camp out for 3+ hours you weren’t going to find a place to be in that area. The tour guides say sit and they do. They used the area as a meeting and assembly place for their groups while shutting out everyone else. While Main Street is open for all just the sheer number of their groups, with the kids sitting side by side on the curb, quickly fills both sides for the whole distance.

Man, this doesn't sound great. Do they only come in the summer or is it year round? If it's just summer I don't have anything to worry about but if its year round...hmmm....

If these South American tour groups keep doing this rude behaviour, someone should complain to guests services about them or the closest Cast Member they can find. If they do the act where they can't speak english, I am sure WDW has a CM that can speak their language. Would a CM yelling at them or speaking to them in a rude tone do anything to them, I doubt it because they will keep doing that once they are done. Basically they would need a CM to baby sit them the whole time while they are over there. I do realize these people are allowed to visit Walt Disney World, like all the other guests. However if these tour groups are always out of hand then maybe they should be kicked out of the theme parks. I know that may sound very harsh but I can't think of anything else, because chances are more people would complain about them during the day if they keep being rude to everyone else.

I have talked to CM's about the rude tour groups from Brasil and believe me WDW powers know about these disruptive tour groups. They either think the extra money they bring in is worth it or afraid of not being PC.

I go to WDW in the winter months and still have encountered these horrible Brazilian groups. The good news is there are fewer groups in the winter, but believe me, they still do exist. You can tell them by the flag and many have t-shirts with Brasil on them.(yes spelled with the "s" not "z") You can't miss them because of their bad behavior and dress. I don't buy the PC BS excuse about cultural differences. I saw a group from Chile last winter and they were great.

Those groups are the main reason I don't go to WDW in July anymore. They totally ruin your vacation. They refuse to go down to the end of the row during the shows. They stop in the middle and refuse to move. The CM's can tell them to move & they pretend not to understand English. Even if they really can't understand English, they should be able to understand when people are pointing to the end of the row. Then everybody else has to crawl over them to fill in the rest of the row. Where are my high heals when I need them? Please understand that these are not one-time instances. This happens at every show all day long. After a while, you just get fed up. One woman gave a CM such a hard time at a parade I thought that she was going to start swinging at him.

I just got back from a weeklong trip.

A few things that are possible is most groups are all in the same park. We got lucky and only ran into them about 3 out of 4 of the days we were there. They even carried their country's flag with them to compete with other country's cheers. It was a little much.

At Fantasmic, it was kind of funny. They were chanting before the show for a good hour or so, and finally somebody started up a USA chant. Oddly enough, I never heard those chants again. I saw them sure, but never heard chants again.

That is awesome someone started up a USA chant!!! I've never heard of anyone doing this....When I go in August; if I hear them start their chant up before a show i'm gonna start and United States chant!!!! I swear i'll do it...

Toyota,

As a former CM I can tell you that during your visit you will not see any of those groups. They are there in force from middle of June to maybe the first week in August. Some of those groups are great and very polite and other are extremly bad.

There was a tour-group of South American kids fighting in line when I was there for a day-trip last year in July. Big boys punching each other and laughing about it. They didn't care who they fell or bumped into. Stepping on small kids and just not looking or caring what happened to anyone but them selfs.

I had a group of South American teen girls pushing and shoving into me at AK in January. A large group of very attractive young ladies....I didn't know if it was my a good thing or a bad thing

It is the mob mentality that lets these kids steam-roll over everyone elses good time.

The only way to get Di$ney to change this....
Start posting the exact dates not to go to Disney. And be very vocal about letting everyone know about these rotten tour groups.

If word ever gets out enough to cause a drop in the bottom-line for the accountants that run Disney, the South American Tour Groups would be shown the Door or at the least be forced to follow the rules and stop acting like animals.

Thanx nalabell for the info. I don't want to sound mean because some groups are probably very nice and considerate but also i'm relieved that I won't see any of these groups while i'm there. Disney is a happy time and I dont want anything coming in between me and my fiances magical time.. :thumbsup2

Maybe I'll just learn some basic Portogese phrases to make sure they know what I"m saying to the girls if they are there when I am there in January.

"Get your bum up and move to the end of the row."

"Stop it."

"How about you learn to be considerate"

or some other phrases

I'm a vocal person though who can get scary when angry.

yeah yearbook, I hear you. I'm not really a vocal person. I usually just let it slide unless it gets really out of control. My fiance on the other hand tells people whats on her mind so I've been well versed in brazilian jiu jitsu (no pun intended) and kempo just in case she decides to make some people mad and I half to defend her. haha...not really; thats not why I study these styles but I does help with self defense.

My nephews ex wife is from Brazil and i swear she was the worst person to go to Disney with. She would just light up a cigarette anywhere she wanted, i told her there are areas for that, but she just ignored me. The cm's came up to her on tom sawyer island and she was very rude. I told her we were going to leave if she didnt stop smoking, she actually ran up to Mickey (and she is about 50 years old) and said she wanted a picture, even though there was a long line of kids waiting patiently. The handler said she would have to get in line and she said something very mean to Mickey! that was the first and last time i went with her there. I have seen the huge groups from South America, and i always go in the other direction. They always seem to be wearing some sort of soccer shirts, so they are easy to see and stay away from.

Chanting USA USA is moronic and childish. If someone wants to act like an idiot, it doesn't mean that we have to stoop to their level.
Would an American visiting Disneyland Paris like to hear Frenchmen chant Vive La France if for some reason they don't like Americans? Or how about Tokyo Disneyland? Would you like to heat them chant Japan, Japan?
Let's try to be adults about this and act in an adult manner.

I don't know if it's just me, but there seems to be a lot of animosity towards South Americans (Brazilians in particular) being discussed on this board.

I've been to Disney World countless times, and to be honest, I've seen ALL walks of life act foolish or rude. (heck, even I've had my moments) Some of you just seem to be targeting particular groups assuming that all of them act or would act that way. Personally, I think THAT is downright rude.
