The alarm rang at 6:30AM. My head was pounding. I came to and immediately ordered everyone to get ready. I ran down to the lobby and got some more coffee. Damn you Wolfgang Puck and your toilety-burnt tasting coffee. I grabbed another 48 creamers and sugar and took it back to the room. Everyone was changed and ready to go. I checked our itenerary and perked up as it was a Disney Studios day. I conferred with Channel 8 and my new television friend suggested that Tower of Terror was a top seven attraction. No one in our party had ever been to the Studios before so this was going to be a great day. We piled in the car and hit the road, making a quick Denny’s stop for breakfast and fuel for the upcoming activities. When we got to the park we noticed that there seemed to be a lot of people. Sarge and his men were loading the trams, but there seemed to be a heckuva line up waiting to get aboard. We caught Sarge’s briefing and the fact that we would probably walk a good 14 miles that day so don’t forget were you parked as it’s very unpleasent to spent your evening searching for your car. Ya think? So we got aboard and were whisked away to the entrance. Are these tram drivers trained at the Disney speedway? I swear they are some of the saviest drivers on the planet.

The sky was very cloudy that morning and the weather predicted more of the same for that afternoon. It was quite a shock to see the sky clear as we pulled up to the entrance and the hot Florida sun started to pound down on us. We all gave a big smile. We hadn’t seen the sun for a good 30 hours and it was a welcome sight. Our first attraction at the park was the Muppets. This was a great attraction and we were happy to see that there was no wait. Once done there we checked out the Indiana Jones show and were blown away at the great performances that they delivered. Some great comedy bits and some even better action sequences. We toured for a few more hours and then we breaked for some lunch. The burgers and hot dogs at the Backlot were a perfect meal and we got a nice break out of the sun. While we ate we noticed a couple of young kids at the end of the table. They could not have been older than 2 and 4 respectively. They had absolutely no adults near them. They were sitting alone in a busy crowded restaurant. We assumed that their mom must have been there alone with them and was currently in line getting lunch. Well a good ten minutes went by as we kept a close eye on the kids. Finally the mom and dad showed up with one tray of food between them. It was odd. There was no reason that we could see why the kids were left unattended. We finished our lunch in silence and a bit of shock at their actions before we pushed off and headed to the Backlot tour. What a let down that attraction was. “If you look out to your right, you can see the employee parking area for the production offices. There on the right is a car that was used in this really obscure movie that you probably have never seen. Oh, lucky day, quick look to the left and you can see some 2x4’s that are going to appear on an upcoming television show!!!”

Once we got over being starstruck from our brush with Hollywood, we headed over to the Rockin Roller Coaster. At this point the wait was approaching 60 minutes and Fastpass was done for the day so we had to wait. It turned out to be closer to 40 minutes that we had to queue and it flew by pretty quickly. A lady tried to barge past us as we were trying to keep together as a group at one point and my wife gave her the “what for”. This lady got really angry and said that we should be more organized. “Erhalten Sie in der linie, schnell, das wir organisiert sein müssen.” I barked at my troops. This seemed to placate the women and she seemed impressed with my German. She gave me a Seig Heil and off we went.

If anyone sees my stomach, could they let me know? It is kind of a round, plump little organ, very cute and he answers to biley. Last seen at the beginning of Rockin Roller Coaster. Man this ride was a lot more intense than I had imagined. We all loved it immensley and immediately labelled it a masterpiece.

We all agreed we needed to have a rest so I grabbed up some Fastpasses for Tower of Terror and we all sat down for a refreshment break. I was getting a bit of sun so we decided to hit the Great Movie Ride. Our cast members had a great rapport and we all got really into the ride. I just adored this ride and had a great time. The scared looking Ripley from Aliens was really well done. Afterwards we all walked back to the Tower of Terror and saw that there was no wait so we jumped in the line where my wife proceeded to chicken out. She had been pretty good up to this point but the atmosphere and theme of the attraction freaked her out a bit. “Sie sind ein grosses huhn und eine schande zur großen Deutschennation.” I let her have it. She looked at me like I was insane and wandered off to check out some shops. Mom and I rubbed our little hands and started grinning like morons in anticipation of our ride thru the Hotel.

This ride was just as great as Rockin Roller Coaster. I have a hard time picking one from the other as my highlight of the day. What a rush. We met up with Lysa and decided to go grab a seat in anticipation of Fantasmic. It was scheduled for 7:30 and I think we got to our seats at 6:00. We had perfect seats right in the middle and next to John and his family from Boston. He immediately saw my Yankees hat and gave this little snort. I gesundheited him and went back to my exciting game of sitting and waiting for Fantasmic.

A few minutes later I overheard him say to his son, “Ya those Yankees are going down tonight. Our Sox are gonna whoomp em.” This broke my reverie and I turned my attention to him. He just kind of smiled and said, “You know your time is up, don’t you? It’s our turn now.”

Now I am a Canadian boy. I don’t know anything about baseball. I bought the hat because it was $8 and I liked the colour of it. So I was very much in the dark and had no idea what he was saying to me. I thought I was getting mugged. I reached for my wallet and he broke into this grin and stuck out his hand for me to shake. I just about fell over backwards as I thought he was gonna kill me, but when I saw his empty hand I shook it vigorously and we introduced ourselves and our families. I ended up buying a few rounds of beer and we chewed the fat for the next hour and a half like long last relatives. I had no idea how passionate Americans were about baseball and football. It was a real treat to get to talk to a fine family who were so warm and genuine.

I noticed that it was getting pretty dark out and the place was absolutely jammed with people. The show was about to start so we wished each other a great vacation and we turned our attention to the show. I can honestly say that I have never seen anything quite like Fantasmic. My mom was in awe and had a lump the size of Rhode Island in her throat. Lysa and I kind of cuddled throughout it and just enjoyed being. It was a great experience.

On the way out of the theater we saw that Tower of Terror was still running and had a zero wait. Mom and I jumped on it and had an even more exciting ride. This young kid was on with us and he was a scream. He got himself so worked up in anticipation of the ride that when it was over he was literally tongue-tied. He was speaking so fast that his words were running together. “OhMomthatwasthebestrideeverdidyouseethatghostfamilyohwowIgottatellDAD!!!!” I put my arm around mom and told her how happy I was to have her with us on this trip and that I hoped she was enjoying herself. She said that it was the greatest time and that she was having trouble keeping herself from grinning. I told her I thought that Dad would have liked that ride and she laughed and told me that my father would have been green and face down in the garden if he had ridden it.

We gathered up my wife and we all walked arm in arm to the exit laughing and feeling the love.

That night we stopped at Denny’s and had a late dinner before turning in. We were in bed before 10PM.

Sounds like you had a magical day. Thanks for sharing. These trip reports really help me take a peak into Disney and keep me from going into withdrawal.:p
